Who left that window open?

Otto spotted it. The heating in that room pauses on its own, and starts again when the window shuts.

Otto runs the lot: solar first, then the battery, then the cheapest time of night.

Is infrared heating expensive to run? Per unit, yes. What decides the bill is the room: how much heat it loses, how long you heat it, and whether you heat only the rooms you use.

Infrared heating running costs are decided by the room, not the heater.

A cold, leaky room needs more units every hour, whatever heats it. A well insulated one needs far fewer. So insulate and draught proof first, then heat only the rooms you use, with a thermostat in each.

Meet the PoweRad crew.

Rad heats the room. Volt and Amp fit the lot. Pow stores the power, Sol brings the sunshine, Otto keeps it smart and Boost does the hot water.

A cold terrace at the start. A warm home, every room, by the end.

Is infrared heating expensive to run? Per unit, yes. And we would rather tell you now than let you find out in January.

What decides the bill is how much heat the room loses, how many hours you heat it, and whether you heat only the rooms you use.

One 10 m² living room with one 750 W panel: we estimate about £92 a year, around 38p a day. That is about 5 heating hours a day over a 240 day season, the panel drawing about 38% of the time, at 27p/kWh, a fixed rate we set just above Ofgem's price cap when we chose it (26.32p, October 2026).

Solar panels, but the sun's gone in.

Sol sent the spare to Pow in the afternoon. Pow stored it all day, and now it's heating the bungalow tonight.

Solar, battery and heating, designed together.

The sun's gone down and Chill thinks it's his turn.

Not so fast. Pow stored power all day, and a battery stores electricity, not heat, so it waits until you want it.

Sunshine by day. Warmth at night.

Towel rail or the wall back? We are still counting the votes. Radiators, or no radiators?

Rad's pop quiz, with Bel keeping score. Amp did not do well.

The panels reach full output in under ten minutes, not ten hours. And a battery stores electricity, not heat.
