As the evenings get darker, lighting becomes an increasingly important part of the garden. Used carefully it does more than simply make a space visible. Low-level lighting can pick out the structure of planting, draw attention to the form of a tree or the movement of grasses. Creating depth through pockets of light and shadow keeps the connection between house and garden alive, making the transition between inside and out feel softer and more inviting.

Delighted to show you all around our 2026 BALI Award winner 💚

What the judeges said:

“This front and rear garden scheme was well executed throughout, to the designer’s vision and client’s delight.
The scale of the site meant that the complexities were amplified including the challenging drainage solutions led by the contractor which was embedded seamlessly within the completed scheme. An outdoor kitchen and seating area which clearly demonstrated a high standard of attention to detail with tile cutting to enable edging beads and good cutting in around slit and catchment drains.
Despite the prolonged period of heat stress, the planting and turf were establishing well and balanced the garden well, with the addition of a raised planting edge to work with the wall foundations improving on the original intention.
Taking the client’s material palette through into the finishes worked really well particularly when managing the hand made tiles and metal work. Also noted was the work to the front providing a fire exit within basement grid and the exceptional path blockwork.
Of specific note were the measures taken by the Contractor in protecting the client’s recently completed interior and managing movements of materials and staff on a daily basis.”

A walk through a large project completed last year.

From quiet pathways winding beneath mature trees and richly layered planting, to the clean architectural lines of the pool terrace and outdoor kitchen, this project reveals a different character at every turn.

The contrast between naturalistic planting, flowing water, stone pathways and contemporary entertaining spaces gives each area its own identity, while allowing the entire landscape to feel connected.
