PROJECT SPOTLIGHT – Front Door Canopy Makeover

I was asked to give a front door canopy a much-needed makeover. The wooden structure had seen better days, with plenty of peeling, flaking paint and areas needing repair.

With the budget and time available, a full paint strip wasn’t practical. I scraped off the loose, flaking paint, sanded the wood, repaired damaged areas and applied suitable primers before finishing with two coats of satin paint. I also resealed the roofing and front door, cleaned the gutters and refitted the house numbers, leaving the canopy refreshed and the entrance looking much smarter.

What should’ve been a 2-day job turned into 4… thanks to the good old British weather! 🌧️ But hopefully, the photos speak for themselves! 😊

PROJECT SPOTLIGHT – Loft Staircase & Decorating

For this project, I gave a loft staircase area a complete refresh, bringing the walls, ceiling and staircase together with a clean, bright finish. Walls and ceiling were painted first, followed by the staircase and spindles, which were primed and painted to give the woodwork a smart, lasting finish.

The contrast between natural light coming through the skylight and the coloured light filtering through the stained-glass window, creates two very different effects, adding character and interest to the finished space.

🌿 PROJECT SPOTLIGHT: Horsetail & Moss Removal

This time, I was asked to tackle horsetail w**ds and moss covering a driveway in North Finchley, measuring at least 10m x 10m.

With no outside tap available at the block of flats, pressure washing was not an option. Instead, I carefully treated the horsetail using professional w**d killer, taking the necessary precautions to protect myself and the surrounding plants, before manually removing the moss with a metal patio scraper and wire brush. Unfortunately, I didn't take any 'before' photos apart from one, so you'll have to use your imagination to picture what it looked like beforehand! 😄

Project Spotlight – Putting Things Right
A difficult start, but a very happy ending!

The ‘before’ photos tell the whole story. What should have been a finished bedroom was anything but: rough walls, cracks, poor preparation, messy cutting-in and paint spilt on the carpet.

I was asked to put things right and had just 3 days to complete the job. I knew this wasn't simply about repainting a room.
The priority: put the problems right, take the pressure off the client and give confidence that, when the job was finished, she would have a room she could be happy with.

After protecting the carpet, I sanded and prepared the surfaces, filling cracks and damaged areas with filler, before priming where needed. I then repainted the room from top to bottom, finishing with the ceiling, walls and woodwork. I also repositioned and securely fixed the floating shelf and a dangerously hung mirror.

Look at the before and after photos to see the difference. A lot of preparation went into this one, but the result is a very happy ending; the room now looks fresh, clean and properly finished.

Good preparation makes the difference.

Project Spotlight: Porch Floor Refresh

It's always satisfying to see how a relatively small project can make such a noticeable difference. The aim here was to replace a tired, damaged porch floor with a cleaner, more modern finish that would completely refresh the entrance to the property.

After removing the old floor, the new tiles were carefully planned, cut and laid to suit the space before returning to grout the floor and complete the finishing touches with a touch of paint to the walls. Despite the challenges of working in a compact entrance, the finished result has completely transformed the look and feel of the porch.

Project Spotlight: Fence Replacement

These old fence panels had become damaged over time and, having been replaced individually over the years, were all different styles, making the boundary look untidy and inconsistent.

The existing fencing was completely removed before installing six new concrete posts, concrete gravel boards and matching 6ft closeboard fence panels throughout. The result is a strong, durable boundary with a much smarter, uniform appearance that will stand the test of time.

Project Spotlight: A Creative Solution for an Unfinished Patio

Not every project is about transforming an entire garden. Sometimes it's about finding the right solution to one small detail.

When this patio was originally laid, there was a long narrow section left unfinished. Over time leaves and debris continually collected, making it difficult to keep clean and tidy.

I wanted to create something that was both practical and visually appealing. The area was filled with dyed concrete and black decorative pebbles, creating a low-maintenance border that complements the patio's cream porcelain slabs. I also repainted the garage wall and gave the whole area a thorough clean and tidy, creating a brighter and more welcoming space.
