Funktional Kitchens

Funktional Kitchens North London Kitchen design specialists offering high quality, beautiful bespoke designs for any home or budget.

The Funktional Kitchens' design service begins with an initial planning appointment in one of our showrooms. Your input into the design process starts right here at the beginning, where we discuss in detail your personal needs and tastes. We will also give you an estimation of how much your project is likely to cost before arranging a site visit to your home. Once we have measurements, we create a Computer Aided Design of your new kitchen. We can show you several alternate versions to help you decide and will provide a full breakdown of costs. Once ordered, your kitchen usually takes about six weeks until it is ready for installation.

The best bar in the house.

And you do not need a reservation.

A fitted drinks cabinet can turn an otherwise unused section of a room into something both practical and a little bit special.

Bottles, glassware, lighting, shelving and storage can all be designed into one dedicated area, whether you want it permanently on show or tucked behind doors when the evening is over.

It is a great example of fitted furniture doing more than simply solving a storage problem.

It gives the room another reason to be used.

From drinks cabinets and media units to studies, bedrooms and living-room furniture, Funktional can design fitted spaces throughout the home.

Nine to five. Then out of sight.

Working from home is useful.

Feeling like you live in your office is less so.

Fitted furniture can create a proper workspace with room for a desk, storage, screens, paperwork and all the practical things you need during the day, while still allowing the room to feel like part of your home once work is finished.

And where space is limited, clever cabinetry can even allow much of it to be closed away.

A home office that works hard when you need it and knows when to clock off.

Funktional designs fitted furniture for much more than kitchens, including studies, bedrooms, living spaces and bespoke storage throughout the home.

Now you see it. Now you don’t.

The invisible kitchen is less about hiding the kitchen completely and more about giving you control over what stays on show.

Appliance garages can conceal the toaster and coffee machine.
Pocket doors can close away working areas.
Integrated appliances disappear into cabinetry.
Flush storage keeps the overall look clean and uninterrupted.

When everything is in use, the kitchen works exactly as it should.

When you are finished, much of the visual clutter can simply disappear.

For open-plan homes in particular, that can make the kitchen feel much more connected to the rest of the living space.

Sometimes the cleverest kitchen feature is the one you cannot see.

The kitchen triangle had a good run.

For years, kitchens were planned around three points: the sink, the fridge and the hob.

But modern kitchens often need to do far more than that.

Now we are thinking in zones.

A prep zone.
A cooking zone.
A coffee or drinks zone.
A clean-up zone.
A place for someone to sit without getting in the way.

It makes much more sense for the way kitchens are actually used now, especially when more than one person is cooking or the kitchen forms part of a larger living space.

Good planning is not about following an old rule. It is about creating a layout that works for the people using it.

The room nobody shows off. Until it looks like this.

Utility rooms, boot rooms and laundry spaces do a lot of the hard work behind the scenes, so they deserve just as much thought as the kitchen.

With the right cabinetry, storage and layout, these spaces can keep coats, shoes, laundry and everyday clutter under control without feeling purely functional.

And when they are designed properly, they can become some of the hardest-working and best-looking rooms in the house.

At Funktional, we design fitted spaces that work beautifully throughout the home, not just in the kitchen.

The mix makes it.

A kitchen can be perfectly coordinated and still feel a little flat.

The spaces that really stand out usually have contrast: darker cabinetry against lighter timber, stone beside warm metal, polished finishes balanced with natural texture.

It is not about making everything match. It is about making every element feel like it belongs.

Get that balance right and the whole room feels richer, warmer and far more considered.

Your kitchen after dark.

Natural light gets plenty of attention when a kitchen is being designed, but what happens when the sun goes down matters just as much.

Good lighting changes how a kitchen feels as well as how it functions. Pendant lights can create a focal point, under-cabinet lighting makes prep areas more practical, and softer ambient lighting helps the room shift from busy workspace to somewhere you actually want to spend the evening.

The best schemes use layers of light rather than relying on one source to do everything.

Because a kitchen should work beautifully at 8pm, not just at 2pm.

Would you put the hob on the island?

It can look fantastic, but whether it is the right choice comes down to how you actually use your kitchen.
An island hob can keep you facing into the room while you cook, make the space feel more sociable and create a strong focal point. But it also needs careful planning around extraction, worktop space, seating and circulation.

For some kitchens, it is absolutely the right move. For others, keeping the hob on the main run creates a cleaner island and a more practical layout.
There is no one-size-fits-all answer. The best layout is the one that works for the way you cook, move and live in the space.
Would you choose the hob on the island, or keep the island clear?

A kitchen designed for more than the everyday.
As the year moves into its busiest season, the kitchen becomes more than somewhere to cook. It becomes the place people gather, linger, pour another glass and inevitably end up long after dinner is served.

Generous preparation space, considered storage and a layout that allows everyone to move comfortably can make hosting feel effortless rather than chaotic.
Beautiful to look at, but designed for everything real life brings with it.

If a new kitchen is on your wish list, now is a good time to start the conversation.

Bathrooms might be one of the smallest rooms in the house, but they still deserve proper thought.
Good bathroom furniture should do more than simply fill a gap. It should create useful storage, keep everyday clutter under control and make the whole room feel more considered.

From vanity units to fitted cabinetry, the right design can completely change how a bathroom looks and how it works.
Because Funktional isn’t just kitchens. We design fitted furniture for bathrooms, bedrooms, living spaces and beyond.
