Robert Kime. My godfather of English interior decoration.
Not just for his extraordinary wallpapers and textiles, but for his whole approach to style and taste.
I’ve always found his work hugely inspiring. He had that rare ability to put things together that shouldn’t necessarily work, but somehow always did. Nothing felt too considered or overly decorated. Rooms had a wonderful sense of age, comfort and personality, as though they’d evolved naturally over generations.
It’s an approach to interiors that I’ve always admired and tried to bring into my own work. Good taste isn’t about everything matching or being perfectly coordinated. It’s about having the confidence to mix things, trust your eye and allow a room to develop its own character.
In this loft bedroom, we used one of his wallpapers above painted timber panelling running to dado height, alongside our Jamie Hooks and Aged Bronze Round Cabinet K***s.
For me, the wallpaper is the star of the show. By a country mile.
