A home can stay liveable.

For James’ renovation, the brief was a loft conversion alongside opening up the ground floor into a more usable open-plan space.

Because the family wanted to remain in the property during the six-month project, planning the temporary set-up mattered just as much as the build itself. Jon helped work through details that made day-to-day life manageable, including relocating the kitchen and adding a temporary sink so they could still drink, wash up and keep the house functioning.

There were difficult points, including a chilly period without heating in the autumn, but the approach meant they only had to move out for three weeks of the project.

Now complete, the loft has become a new bedroom, and the ground floor has given the house much more usable space.

More from this project soon.

A more hands-on way to build.

We’re back in Wimbledon today, talking through our latest offering at Standley Design and Build.

For clients who don’t need the full project management service, we’re now offering a more budget-friendly option where they deal directly with the foreman day to day. We still manage the important parts, including building control, finances and quality, so there is still Standley Design and Build oversight where it matters.

For clients who are more time poor, or prefer a fully managed process, our premium service remains an end-to-end option with a dedicated project manager, design support, WhatsApp updates and the full project management setup.

Both routes are built around the same focus on quality, just with different levels of hands-on involvement from the client.

More project updates coming soon.

We’re back at Acacia Grove, and the project has moved on massively since our last visit. This complete design and build new build is now well into second fix, and the whole place is really starting to take shape.

This week, the kitchens and bathrooms have been fitted, with the final details like sockets, lighting and kitchen areas all being prepped. From what started as a blank plot, it’s exciting to see the finishes going in, the spaces opening up, and the project now feeling much more like a home than a building site.

There’s still plenty more to come from Acacia Grove, so watch this space. If you’re planning your own project, get in touch with Standley Design and Build today.

Respect starts before the work does.

When we’re working in someone’s home, the way we behave on site matters just as much as the work itself.

Many clients continue living in the property while work is being carried out, so every part of the day needs to be handled properly. That means only accessing the areas we need, keeping the working space clean, protecting floors, doors, furniture and walls, and making sure tools, materials, rubbish and dust are not left lying around unnecessarily.

Communication is just as important. If electricity, water, heating or anything else needs to be isolated, the site manager needs to know first so the homeowner is aware before anything happens.

It also means being considerate with noise, not using the client’s belongings, securing the property properly at the end of the day, and raising any issues straight away rather than leaving them for someone else.

None of this is complicated. It comes down to common sense, respect and treating every home as if it is in safe hands from start to finish.

Clarence Road is opening up.

We’re on site at Clarence Road, working through a full design and build project that started at concept and planning stage, with amendments being developed as the project moves forward.

At this stage, internal pillars have been taken down to create a proper open plan living space, and the roof has been opened up to form an apex. The structural drawings have been key in helping improve the flow of the space and making it feel bigger.

Timing is tight, with the clients expecting a baby in September, so the team are working quickly and precisely while keeping quality at the centre of the build.

More updates coming soon.

The layout is taking shape.

We’re at the stage where the main spaces are starting to make sense on site. The sink position is set, the cooker sits along the run, and the island is marked out with the orange tape so everyone can see how the kitchen will work in the room.

From there, the sitting area and dining table position are clear, with an L-shaped sofa planned for the living space.

It’s also a project the family are living alongside, so the kids are part of the process too. Leo, who’s nearly four, likes coming down to see what’s happening, which has got us thinking about little hard hats for customers’ children when they visit site.

Next up, we’re looking at the underfloor heating.

More updates coming soon.

First Cross is nearly there.

We’re back at First Cross and the refurb is now moving into its final stretch.

Most of the second fix work is complete, with the kitchen fully fitted, flooring down, and the pocket doors and layouts now working as they should. From here, we’re onto the final painting, snagging, and a few last deliveries before finishing in around three weeks.

At this stage, the detail really matters. The focus has been on keeping things moving quickly, maintaining quality, and reducing disruption for the family while making the home work better day to day.

The walkthrough is where that tidy finish starts to show.

More updates coming soon.

A loft with more than one use.

This Raynes Park design and build project started with the customer wanting a loft conversion. We put the drawings together, submitted the planning, and six months later it’s now a finished space.

What works really well here is how the layout has been used: a bedroom, a walk-in wardrobe, an office space, a Juliet balcony, air conditioning, and a finished bathroom all within the loft.

More from this Raynes Park project soon.

The loft is now complete.

Back at Rougemont, the loft conversion is fully finished after four weeks on site, and it has all come together at the right time for the customer and their growing family.

With the upstairs works complete, we’re now moving into the next phase: opening up the ground floor, adding a downstairs toilet, and improving the flow of the home for day-to-day family life.

Everything has been running to plan, with the team keeping the site tidy and efficient to help keep disruption to a minimum while the family carries on at home.

More updates coming soon.

The extension is taking shape.

Back at Durham Road, the project has moved on from the steels going in to the next visible stage of the build.

The brickwork is now coming up, the block and beam floor is in, and the space is starting to build up from the structural base into something much more usable.

This is the stage where the progress is easy to see with every visit.

More progress to follow.
