So, we celebrated…!
Today marks not one, but TWO very exciting milestones!
The Leafy Snug is officially ONE year old! 🤎
And, coincidentally, on the very same day, our little shop in Wirksworth is SIX months old! 🪴
After an incredibly busy summer that completely swept us off our feet, we decided to celebrate quietly with a drink and, of course, some cake!
Some may have thought I was foolish, others may have said I was too young to run a shop whilst still working as a nurse and juggling everything else life throws my way… but I thought, why not give it a go anyway?!
So, a HUGE thank you to everyone who has supported us, whether you’ve visited, followed our journey or simply told a friend about us. We wouldn’t be where we are today without you!
And as a little birthday treat…
We’ve officially released our Traditional Christmas Wreath Workshops! 🎄
Spaces are limited, so make sure to book your place in-store or via our website before they’re gone!

It’s October 1st and our Wizarding Window is officially up! 🪄
I genuinely can’t express how much emotion has gone into this one. Stress, burnout and exhaustion… but also an abundance of creative whimsy, collaboration and FUN! 🌱

One of the greatest joys of this beautiful little shop is the community it has brought together. From borrowed watering cans and rescued terracotta pots, to asking your mum to make you a Sempervivum witches’ hat… 🧙‍♀️

And the fact that Wirksworth HAS a Wizarding Day was a HUGE selling point for having the shop here in the first place. As a true Ravenclaw, I’ve thrown myself into creating my vision for this window for months, and I’m so excited to finally share it with you!

So, pop by and see us on Sunday 4th October! You’ll find another Mandrake outside the shop for a photo opportunity and my voice will be welcoming you to the Ministry of Magic Muggle entrance… aka the red phone box just around the corner! 🤭

There are two dates over the next month or so when our usual opening hours will be a little different, so please make a note if you’re planning a visit:

Friday 25th September: 9:30am–12pm
Sunday 1st November: CLOSED

Our first Wirksworth Festival weekend is officially over and out!
Oh my goodness… where do I even start?! 😂
I don’t actually have too many photos from the weekend because I barely got the chance to leave the shop!
Despite a very rainy Saturday, we had such an amazing weekend and, somehow, it turned out to be our busiest yet! 🤯
The town was absolutely buzzing, and it was so lovely seeing so many familiar faces as well as welcoming lots of new ones through the door. There were plants going out, LOTS of coffees being made and barely a quiet moment in between! ☕️🌿
We also had the pleasure of hosting our festival artist for the weekend, Gael Cherry, which made it feel even more special to be properly involved in the festival for the very first time!
A huge thank you to everyone who popped in, supported us, stopped for a chat or chose to spend a little part of your festival weekend with us. It still feels quite surreal that this was our very first one as The Leafy Snug!
And the festival isn’t over yet! There are plenty more events happening throughout the town this week, and we’re very much looking forward to hosting the Inspiration with Flowers MasterClass at the shop on Tuesday and Wednesday evening, run by Benedikt Humm & John Wheeldon 🌸
The event is raising funds for Aquabox and is now completely SOLD OUT, which is amazing!

Here’s just a small highlight from a VERY busy month. I couldn’t possibly list everything that’s happened in August, or you’d be swiping all night 🫠😂
A huge, heartfelt thank you to everyone who has followed along, popped into the shop to say hello (or “well done!” 🤪), shared, liked, commented, and especially to those of you who have travelled from far and wide to come and see us in person!
It’s always such a pleasure meeting new faces and welcoming you to Wirksworth, with all of its wonderful quirkiness 💗
So… what do I do tomorrow?! 😂

So, the rain has arrived… have you watered your plants yet? 🌧️🌱
These are just a select few of the plants in the shop that much prefer rainwater or filtered water, and yes, water from a filter jug absolutely counts! 💧
Depending on where you live, tap water can contain higher levels of dissolved minerals and salts, as well as treatment chemicals such as chlorine or chloramine. Over time, some of these can build up in the substrate, and certain houseplants are much more sensitive to them than others.
You might notice things like crispy brown leaf tips, browning edges or unhappy looking leaves even though you feel like you’re doing everything else right!
So while the skies have finally opened, why not make the most of it? Pop a bucket or watering can outside, (or even better a water butt!) to collect a little rainwater and give your fussier plants a drink!

To live without fear…!
I’ve been asked so many times whether I’d ever done anything like this before, and the honest answer is… no! 😂
I’d love to tell you I had a perfect plan and everything has gone exactly the way I imagined it would, but that was never going to happen, and I never expected it to.
I was talking today about how there always seems to be “something next” something else to worry about, something else to organise, something else to pay for. But when I really think about it, I wouldn’t want it any other way.
Life would get pretty boring if everything stayed comfortable. Having something next keeps pushing me to learn, to do better, to be braver and to keep building something I’m proud of.
This reel is a little collection of videos from the very beginning of our journey, and looking back at them honestly feels like a distant memory… even though it hasn’t even been 6 months !!
So much can change when you stop waiting until you feel completely ready and just give it a go.
Here’s to whatever comes next.
