We're delighted to welcome Gavin Fraser, the newest architect to join the team at Absolute Architecture 👋
Gavin took a less common route into architecture. He studied art first, then spent several years working in construction, and found that architecture brought the two together: the technical side of building and his interest in design.
He trained at Oxford Brookes, is a RIBA Chartered Architect, and works across our residential projects from early design through to construction.
We asked him what makes a great one-off home. His answer was that a great one-off home is one that relates to its context and meets the needs of the client. Size is not necessarily what makes a house successful; it is the quality of the spaces, the connection between them, and how the design makes the most of the site, light and surroundings.
Getting to know Gavin a little better:
What's your favourite building? "Le Corbusier's Notre-Dame du Haut at Ronchamp."
If you could design your own dream house with no constraints, where would it be and what would it look like? "Somewhere in the north-east, I would love to design a bold, epic Brutalist concrete house overlooking the sea."
What do you do when you're not designing? "I ‘enjoy’ running."
Welcome to the team, Gavin!
