Hi everyone !

O.J tree services cover every aspect of tree surgery, but particularly specialise in aerial works
Over the last week I’ve been working all across Norfolk and Suffolk — with some pretty incredible views along the way.

I have 5 days free next month that need filling due to a cancellation.

Whether it’s a large, challenging tree or a smaller job that simply needs the right approach, no job is too big or too small.

If you have a tree that needs attention, or a difficult job you’ve been putting off, get in touch for a free quote.

Why does it cost so much ?

Professional tree climbing is specialist, high-risk work, and the rates reflect much more than the time spent physically working in the tree.

As a self-employed arborist, I don't receive an employer's sick pay or a guaranteed wage. Every time I climb a tree, I accept a level of personal risk. Even with the correct training, experience, equipment and safety procedures, there is always the possibility of an injury.

If I am injured, the consequences aren't simply the time needed to recover. I may be unable to climb or carry out physical work, meaning I cannot earn an income during that period. Unlike an employed worker, there is no company paying me while I'm off recovering. My ability to earn depends directly on my ability to work

Ultimately, the customer isn't just paying for the hours the climber spends in the tree. They are paying for the skill, experience, equipment and responsibility required to put someone safely into a tree and carry out work that most people simply cannot do themselves.

For a self-employed climber, the rate also has to provide some protection against the financial consequences of doing a dangerous job. If I get injured, I don't get paid to recover. I lose the ability to earn altogether.

That is a fundamental part of why professional arboricultural climbing rates are necessarily higher than simply calculating an hourly wage.

Last week, O.J tree services teamed up with a local business to carry out work on this beautiful horse chestnut tree that had unfortunately become structurally unsafe.

Rather than removing the tree completely, we reduced it to a monolith—'a standing section of the trunk that remains safely in place'

Standing deadwood is one of the most important habitats in the natural environment. As the wood gradually decays, it provides food and shelter for fungi, insects, birds, bats and other wildlife. Cavities formed over time become valuable nesting and roosting sites, while the decaying timber supports countless organisms that are essential to a healthy ecosystem.

A full removal is always our last resort. Whenever it's safe and practical to do so, we'll look for ways to retain as much of a tree's environmental value as possible.

Every tree has a role to play—even after its life has come to an end. 🌳🪵

I literally went 'the extra mile' yesterday to help out a fellow tree surgeon who ended up a climber short , on a conifer dismantle :) it was quite the journey, but it was a lovely chance to get out of Norfolk and see some nice views
I left My house at 5am and got home at midnight 😲

Part of my business is to offer my climbing services to other tree services , it's a great way to see how other teams operate, and to further my skills. As there's never just one way of doing things in this industry !

Don't hesitate to get in touch if your business needs a helping hand when minus a staff member , whether youre requiring a climber or just an extra pair of hands on the ground

What a week !
But as they say
Proper Prior Planning and Preparation Prevents P**s Poor Performance 'or something like that'
Still quoting for the summer
Dont hesitate to get in touch

Today was a nice challenge
Not only was the tree leaning heavily toward the customers shed , but was also being supported by the sycamores in front
The tree had a very noticeable fracture at the bottom
This meant we had to be very aware that the tree may fall when the supporting branches were removed
But even in a confined space ,with all the risk factors considered, we got it down safely .

Many thanks
