Yesterday, .arch had the pleasure of attending the Nottingham Women In Construction September luncheon at Cosy Club.

It was lovely to catch up with familiar faces, meet some new people and have some genuinely great conversations along the way. It’s always refreshing to get together with such a welcoming group and share experiences, ideas and a few laughs too!

A big thank you to Sophie Turner, Founder and Lead Coach of , for sharing her insights and experiences. Her talk sparked some really interesting conversations and gave us plenty to think about.

And, of course, thank you to the organisers for putting on another fantastic event, and to the lovely ladies who made the conversations such a pleasure.

Already looking forward to the next one!

Supporting the Next Generation

A few weeks ago, we had the pleasure of welcoming Kaur to Marsh:Grochowski Architects for a few days of work experience.

We’ve always valued the opportunity to support students and recent graduates as they take their first steps into the profession, and over the years we’ve welcomed a number of students into the practice to gain an insight into life in an architectural practice.

During her time with us, she had the opportunity to take on a brief assignment and present her findings and ideas to members of the team. It was great to see her approach the task with enthusiasm and confidence, and to be able to share some feedback and encouragement along the way.

We were delighted to be able to give her an insight into the working environment and some practical experience of the profession. Thank you, Kirindeep, for your enthusiasm, effort and engagement during your time with us.

We hope you enjoyed the experience and found it useful as you take the next steps in your career. Wishing you all the very best as you continue your search for the right placement and opportunity!

A New Addition to the Studio

We're always looking for better ways to help our clients visualise their projects.

This week we've been putting our new 3D printer through its paces with some test prints, and we're excited to start producing physical models of our designs.

There's something about being able to hold a project in your hands that drawings and renders simply can't replicate. Whether it's understanding scale, exploring design options, or communicating ideas more clearly, physical models can make conversations much more engaging and productive.

Looking forward to putting it to work on some live projects soon.

Bennerley Viaduct Visitor Centre & Café Officially Opens

We're delighted to celebrate the official opening of the new Bennerley Viaduct Visitor Centre & Café, marking an important milestone in the ongoing regeneration of one of the East Midlands' most significant industrial heritage landmarks.

The visitor centre has been designed to complement the viaduct and its setting, taking inspiration from the site's railway heritage. The Corten steel cladding will continue to weather over time, helping the building settle naturally into the landscape. The façade also features patterns inspired by the viaduct's lattice columns, the surrounding wildlife and, artwork created by local schoolchildren, giving the building a unique identity while celebrating the community at the heart of the project.

The new visitor centre provides a welcoming gateway to the viaduct, with a café, exhibition and interpretation spaces, and accessible facilities for visitors to learn more about the structure's history and the surrounding landscape. Together with the new access ramp, it creates a much-improved arrival experience and encourages more people to discover this remarkable landmark.

It has been a pleasure to work alongside the Friends of Bennerley Viaduct and the wider project team to help bring this vision to life. The project shows how contemporary architecture can sit comfortably alongside a nationally important heritage asset, creating a space that supports education, tourism and the local community while respecting the character of the site.

As the surrounding landscape continues to establish, the visitor centre will become even more integrated into its setting. We'll share updated photography of the completed building and landscape once it's available. In the meantime, congratulations to everyone involved in reaching this significant milestone—we look forward to seeing the visitor centre enjoyed by visitors for many years to come.

A look back at a fantastic morning exploring Nottingham City's Architectural Heritage.

On Tuesday, we were joined by members, guests and friends for our Architecture Walk through the city, discovering some of Nottingham's most fascinating buildings, learning about their history, and enjoying plenty of great conversations along the way.

A huge thank you to our brilliant guides, Chris Matthews, Nottingham City Council's Principal Conservation Officer & founder of Marsh:Grochowski Architects, Julian Marsh, for sharing their knowledge and bringing Nottingham's architectural heritage to life. It was wonderful to welcome familiar faces, meet new people, and see so many connections being made throughout the morning.

The positive feedback has been fantastic, and we're already looking forward to making this an annual event.

Thank you to everyone who joined us—we hope to see you at the next one!

A fantastic evening at the Gleeds Charity Quiz 2026 at the Birmingham Conference & Events Centre.

There was plenty of laughter, good conversation, and some surprisingly challenging quiz questions along the way. Most importantly, it was all in support of , an incredible charity that provides support to individuals and families affected by cancer.

A huge thank you to Jason Redfearn, , Alex Allsopp and Matt Wrate for joining us and helping make it such an enjoyable evening. Unfortunately, we didn't manage to get a full team photo as some of the group had already headed off by the time we remembered to take one, but it was great to spend the evening together while supporting such a worthwhile cause.

Thank you to Gleeds for organising another brilliant event, and to everyone involved in raising funds for HelpHarryHelpOthers.

Project: Office Hub at Woolpack Lane 2 (15–17 Stoney Street – Phase B)

A new planning application has been submitted for a proposed office hub at the former car park on Woolpack Lane 2, Nottingham, marking the second phase of the wider redevelopment of the site.

Phase A, currently under construction, involves the conversion and extension of the existing buildings at 15–17 Stoney Street, directly adjacent to the Phase B site.

The Phase B proposal introduces a contemporary three-storey building comprising seven office units, meeting facilities, and shared communal spaces. The scheme is conceived as a playful composition of volumes arranged around a central courtyard, creating an engaging and flexible working environment.

While the corner extension in Phase A draws inspiration from the established architectural language of Stoney Street, maintaining continuity in scale, rhythm, and form, Phase B adopts a more contemporary architectural expression. Its design remains sensitive to the surrounding urban context through carefully considered massing, materiality, and its relationship with neighbouring buildings.

An exciting next step in the regeneration of this part of Nottingham, bringing new workspace opportunities while contributing positively to the city's evolving architectural landscape.

Project Update: Corner Extension and Refurbishment of 15–17 Stoney Street – Phase A

It’s great to be back on site and see the progress being made on Stoney Street Phase A.

The windows are now installed, giving the building a real sense of form, while internal finishes are well underway. Following a few design updates, the scheme will now deliver a restaurant space at ground floor level with office accommodation on the upper floors.

Looking forward to sharing more updates as the project continues to take shape.
