A rather exciting way to end the week as we’re back this afternoon to put the final touches to a house we’ve been working away on over the last year.

It’s been a lovely one to bring back to life, working alongside an exceptionally talented team of craftsmen to restore, remake and carefully consider all the details that give a place its sense of character and belonging, and this one has lots!

Set within a very special historic building, we’ve worked to preserve its sense of history while reimagining the spaces for our client…and naturally enjoyed a little decorative mischief along the way:)

In September’s Interior Design Masterclass at Rutland Nursery we enjoyed discussing how rooms can happily chat together whilst still retaining their own individual purpose.
These two rooms were originally separated by doors, and our clients were keen to open them up without simply giving both spaces the same job. One is now a cosy snug with the television, whilst the other is lined with books, creating a quieter space for reading and retreating.
The result is two rooms that feel connected, but each with a personality and purpose of its own.
Keep an eye out for 2027 masterclass dates where we’ll be back at Rutland Nursery, enjoying those beautiful views of the reservoir and look forward to hearing about your design conundrums, we’ve got some great plans for the next series!

A room is rarely just a room when there’s a good view beyond it.

I rather like when a doorway does a bit of the decorating for you — framing the next room, giving you a flash of colour and making you want to wander through and see what’s on the other side.

Rooms are always more interesting when they have something to say to one another.
