Misting between the panes doesn’t mean the whole window has to go.

This one in Parson Cross had moisture trapped inside the double-glazed unit, so cleaning the glass was never going to sort it.

The old unit came out, the existing frame stayed in place, and a new double-glazed unit went back in.

Clear view again without replacing the whole window.

Sometimes the fix is a lot more straightforward than people expect.

A bright security light doesn’t automatically mean the important bit is actually well lit.

We see this quite a lot - the driveway is bright, the paving is bright, but the doorway itself is still sitting in shadow.

That’s the part that matters.

When you check your outside lighting, don’t just look at how powerful the light is. Stand where someone would actually approach the door and see what’s visible from there.

You might find the light is doing plenty of work in the wrong place.

A straightforward lock replacement in Deepcar.

The old mechanism came out, a replacement was matched to the door, and we fitted a new 3-star cylinder at the same time.

Once everything was back together, we checked the handle, lock and key to make sure the door was working properly again.

No drama. Just the right parts fitted properly and the door back doing what it should.

Most people think about home security from the front door inwards.

It’s worth looking the other way too.

Your driveway can change depending on where the car is parked, how far the hedge has grown, whether the side gate is visible and where the outside light actually lands.

None of those things feels particularly important on its own.

That’s probably why they get missed.

One useful thing you can do tonight is walk out to the pavement and look back at your house.

Park the car where you normally would.
Switch the lights on.
Look at the side access.
Look at what’s hidden.

You know the property so well that your brain fills in the gaps.

Someone seeing it for the first time won’t.

Sometimes the best security improvements aren’t new products. They’re just noticing what the property is already giving away.

Have a look at what’s sitting underneath your windows.

Bins, garden chairs, storage boxes, planters - anything solid enough to stand on can make an awkward window much easier to reach.

It’s one of those things you stop noticing because it’s just part of the garden.

Move anything that gives an easy step up away from accessible windows and doors.

Small change. Worth doing.

This window in Alfreton wasn’t sitting square in the frame anymore.

You could see it in the gap at the top, and once we checked it properly, the problem came back to the friction stays.

They’d worn and weren’t holding the sash where they should.

We replaced them, brought the window back into line and checked that it was opening and closing properly again.

No need to replace the window.
The hinges were the problem, so that’s what we fixed.

Most doors and windows don’t just fail out of nowhere.

Usually, they’ve been trying to tell you for a while.

The handle gets a bit stiffer.
The door needs a little lift.
A window starts catching.
A gap around the frame gets slightly wider.
The lock needs more effort than it used to.

And because it still works, you live with it.

That’s where small faults turn into bigger repairs.

A bit of movement in the hinges can put strain on the lock.
Poor alignment can make the handle work harder.
A window that isn’t sealing properly can point to the sash no longer sitting where it should.

The useful bit is catching it early.

Sometimes the fix is just an adjustment, a hinge repair or putting something back into line before another part takes the strain.

So if a door or window has started behaving differently, don’t wait for the day it stops working completely.

A Chinese lock fitted on this door in Harthill.

The extra locking point was installed, then we checked the latch and bolt from the edge of the door to make sure everything was lining up and working properly.

Key and thumbturn tested.
Everything operating as it should.

This role is ideal for someone with experience in door and window fitting, repairs, hinges, hardware, multipoint mechanisms, adjustments, realignment and fault finding.

The hinges on this door in Bradway had worn to the point where they weren’t holding the door properly anymore.

So we checked how the door was sitting, took the old hinges off and fitted new ones.

Once they were in, the door was brought back into position and tested properly.

No need to replace the whole door.
The hinges were the problem, so that’s what we fixed.

Bradway job complete.
