Commercial stump grinding at Exeter Golf & Country Club ⛳

We recently headed out to Exeter Golf & Country Club, supporting Chris Groves Associates with a large stump grinding job to open up an area for golfers.

With perfect ground conditions and a break in the weather, it was a great opportunity to put our Jo Beau B37-110 through its paces.

The job involved grinding several large stumps, along with removing all the lateral surface roots. The tracked Jo Beau was ideal for the site, with its low weight and centre of gravity helping to minimise disturbance to the surrounding ground.

The machine also features manual control settings and an automatic grinding function, making it well suited to demanding jobs like this.

Golf courses, estates, schools, local authorities and larger commercial sites are all part of the work we undertake, alongside domestic stump grinding for homeowners.

LYME REGIS BIG STUMP JOB & SCRUB CLEARANCE

One of this week’s jobs was a large spreading Beech stump in Lyme Regis.

It took a fair bit of grinding as the side roots were very close to the surface, but the Jo Beau soon found the bottom and ground the whole stump out, including the surface roots.

We also cleared an area of Laurel. Much shallower roots on this one, so the Jo Beau made short work of it.

At Stump Solutions, you’re not just getting someone with a grinder. Dave is a qualified professional Tree Inspection Officer and experienced tree surgeon with over 30 years in the industry.

We’ve been chosen to carry out work for local councils, schools, developers, tree surgeons and other commercial customers, as well as domestic customers.

Out with the Jo Beau B37 110 again for a five stump job, including one very large Ash stump.

All five were high on arrival, so the first job was to reduce them down to ground level with the chainsaw before getting the grinder to work.

We always tackle the biggest stump first. Fresh teeth at the start of every day and the right tooth choice make a big difference, giving us more productive grinding, less stress on the machine, less operator fatigue, less time on the job and less fuel used.

The photos show the job from start to finish, including the amount of wood chip produced from the larger stump.

Another five stumps gone and ready for the next stage 👍

One of this week’s jobs was helping out a local tree surgery company with a huge Lime stump 🌳

This one was over 1 metre high and had a serious amount of debris through the epicormic growth, making it a nightmare to reduce with a chainsaw without constantly blunting chains.

Because of the size of the stump, the Jo Beau B37 110 was specifically brought in for this job. It’s built for exactly this sort of work and made light work of reducing the stump from over a metre high.

We started by grinding down from the highest point, working around the stump until we were left with a clean central stem. This could then be cut down safely with the chainsaw before grinding the remaining stump to the required depth.

A handy method that saves time and chains, especially when dealing with a stump this size.

The Jo Beau produced a serious amount of mulch on this one, which was cleared and disposed of by the tree surgery company.

Always happy to help out local tree surgeons when they have a stump that’s causing them a headache 👍

Not every stump is an easy one 🌳

This large twin stemmed Thuja plicata stump was for a local developer and had to be ground out ready for a concrete pour the next day.

The concrete kerbs had already been removed, but we still had to work right up to a steel rebar box and the existing concrete. Took a bit of care, but we got it down to the required depth with no issues.

The Jo Beau B37 110 was the machine for the job. For its size it’s got some serious power and just chewed through this stump.

Because we were so close to the rebar and concrete, I used the grinder in manual mode rather than auto, just to give myself that extra control.

Last photos show the finished result. Stump gone and ready for concrete.

🌲 Cedar stump removal – Charmouth

This large Cedar stump measured around 6ft across. The photos and description didn’t quite show the true size, but that’s all part of the job.

Access was restricted by an older decked area, so the tracked grinder wasn’t an option. After reducing the stump with a chainsaw, the FSI grinder got to work.

✔️ Around 2 hours grinding
✔️ Stump removed below ground level
✔️ Area left ready for landscaping

Every job presents different challenges, and choosing the right machine for the access is just as important as the grinding itself.
