Conservatory Floor Remediation & Herringbone Tiling Project

This project was undertaken following a referral from a builder, after the customer experienced significant movement and subsidence within the floor of an existing conservatory. Following the prolonged dry weather, the tiled floor had begun to fail, resulting in cracked tiles and an uneven surface.

The existing tiles were completely removed to allow us to assess and address the floor preparation requirements before installing the new tiled finish. The underlying cause appears to be related to movement within the subfloor, although the precise cause would require further investigation.

Our remedial works included:

* Preparation of the existing substrate.
* Application of BAL Level Max latex levelling compound, with depths of up to 20mm in certain areas.
* Installation of Schlüter-DITRA decoupling membrane to help accommodate differential movement between the substrate and the tiled finish.
* Installation of the customer’s chosen porcelain tiles in a herringbone pattern.

The tiles were supplied by Tile Flair, with the customer opting for a herringbone design to create a clean, contemporary finish.

Projects of this nature highlight the importance of correct substrate preparation, appropriate levelling systems and the use of suitable decoupling membranes when carrying out remedial tiling work.

A successful installation is about far more than the finished appearance. The preparation beneath the tiles is equally important in achieving a quality, long-lasting result.
