Throwback Thursday: Kinross, Burnley 🔙

This Throwback Thursday, we are looking at the Kinross Street Estate, a scheme comprising of 61 contemporary affordable homes, helping to revitalise the Hargher Clough area of Burnley.

BTP Architects provided a variety of two- and three-bedroom bungalows and houses, designed to meet the needs of a variety of tenants, including families and older people.

The development was designed sustainably, with features including solar PV panels and electric vehicle charging points, ensuring the homes are cost-effective, eco-friendly and ‘future-proofed’, meeting modern environmental standards.

The team worked closely with the local community to shape the scheme and enhance the existing spaces for new and existing residents.

Transformation Tuesday: Brickfields House, Ashton-under-Lyne 🧱

This Transformation Tuesday, we are looking at Brickfields House, where BTP Architects transformed a sheltered housing complex that was no longer fit for purpose, into affordable apartments for those aged 55 and over.

In partnership with Watson Homes, the 21,800 square foot apartment scheme replaces the outdated Emmanuel Court sheltered housing complex, providing 42 high quality, one-bedroom apartments.

The development revitalised the surrounding area, bringing much-need accommodation, and offering thoughtfully designed apartments that are energy efficient, reducing fuel costs for its residents.

: The Mere, Bolton 🏘️

This week, we’re looking back at our work on The Mere development in Bolton, where BTP Architects helped to deliver a ‘blind to tenure’ neighbourhood of 130 mixed dwellings.

The former brownfield site was transformed into a mixture of houses, bungalows and apartments, with the buildings and external environments designed in collaboration with an artist, as per Bolton council’s ‘percent-for-art’ policy - enhancing community regeneration through creative arts projects.

Despite its urban location, the site was surrounded by green spaces which also imparted on the final design.

BTP worked closely with Contour Housing, Bardsley Construction, Bolton MC and Irwell Valley Housing on the development, ensuring they delivered on each of the four clients’ specific briefs.

The Mere is a great example of extensive collaborative working and the development of an inner city neighbourhood.

International Day for the Eradication of Poverty - 17th October 2026 🤝

Today is the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, and an opportunity to spotlight some of our affordable homes developments that reflect how architecture and high-quality housing can transform people’s lives.

Projects such as Whitewell Court in Bacup, where BTP were architects to redevelop derelict flats that were a magnet for vandalism and petty crime, into affordable apartments specific to the needs of residents over 55.

The development now provides much needed, high-quality accommodation, and an economic boost to the surrounding areas.

At BTP Architects, we are proud to deliver projects that renovate sites which are otherwise neglected or called for demolition, into safe and welcoming areas which residents can be proud to live in.
