I recently had in an axle from a gig trailer which had completely shot backplates that needed replacing. However the size of the hubs and design of the backplate were to accommodate 203 x 40 Knott brakes. These brakes are readily available, but there are no backplate assemblies anywhere that will accommodate the 203 x 40
You can fit a 200 x 50 backplate with an insert, but still has some fitting issues.
The main steel assembly on the 200 x 50 has a same profile but exaggerated to accommodate the wider brake shoe.
I approach the problem as usually the corrosion is on the shroud by removing a shroud from a new backplate and fitting to the original main steel backplate frame which is welded to the axle hub.
If you watch my videos and I do apologise beforehand to any poor quality of presentation you can see how it can be done and have a good long term result. This also cuts the cost of possibly a new axle.

A new addition to the workshop is this cracking 2700 kg lift get just the right height for the boat trailers. We have also used the ramp on horse trailers and plant trailers. A built in safety device prevents the ramp lowering inadvertently. We back up with extra supports.
We use our 4 post in the other bay religiously, but this has taken a lot of pressure off.
