🌱 An Update to Our Grass-Cutting Service
Over the coming weeks, I’ll be making some changes to OutServe’s regular grass-cutting round. Unfortunately, this means reducing the size of the round, and a small number of customers will see a price adjustment.
I wanted to explain why.
Our grass-cutting service has always been designed as a seasonal maintenance service rather than an ad-hoc grass cut.
Grass doesn't grow at the same rate throughout the season. Some visits are quick maintenance cuts, while during periods of strong spring growth or following summer rain, the same lawn can take considerably longer.
As we move towards autumn, wetter conditions combined with warm ground can result in extremely fast, thick growth. During these periods, my grass round can increase from around one working day to two full days each week.
The important part is that I don't charge customers more when their lawn takes twice as long to cut. The quicker visits during slower-growing periods help balance the heavier, more time-consuming cuts throughout the season, allowing me to keep a consistent regular price.
Unfortunately, this year we've experienced considerably more requested skips during slower growth. At times I've been able to fit what would normally be two weeks of scheduled grass cutting into a single morning.
I completely understand why someone may look at a lawn during a dry spell and think it doesn't need cutting. However, repeated skips make a seasonal round difficult to sustain because that customer's place still needs to be reserved for when growth accelerates again.
OutServe isn't intended to be an ad-hoc service where visits are booked and cancelled depending on how much the grass has grown. It's a reserved place on a regular seasonal maintenance round.
My working week is also extremely limited. Grass cutting is only one of the services I provide, and I'd much rather maintain a smaller round reliably than continually take on more work and compromise the service.
I've always tried to make OutServe about more than simply completing a job. I invest in professional equipment, communication and reliability, while our vehicles also carry First Aid equipment, LifeVac choking devices and AED defibrillators for emergency community use. Supporting our local communities and grassroots organisations remains an important part of what I want OutServe to represent. ❤️
Following a review, some lawns will unfortunately be removed from the round where the current arrangement is no longer sustainable. Some customers with three or more skips who are remaining on the round will see a £5 increase per visit from 31st August.
Importantly, I'm not applying a blanket increase to everyone. Customers who have maintained their regular schedule will continue at their existing price.
The aim is simple: a slightly smaller, sustainable grass-cutting round that allows me to continue providing the professional, reliable and consistent service I want OutServe to be known for.
Thank you to everyone who continues to support my small business and what we're trying to build at OutServe. It genuinely is appreciated. 😊
