Brick-matched, timber-frame and finished in six weeks. 🏡

This rear extension in Harrogate is 3m × 4m. It added a bright dining area and improved the flow of the whole house, with an off-site timber frame to keep the build quick, and a brick match so it looks like it's always been there. Building control was handled as part of the job.

We were working in London last week at the Excel arena building some exhibition stands….when the unthinkable happened and our Van was broken into, and our tools and personal items were stolen….all whilst we were parked in a “SECURE” carpark!!!

Then came the comments on Iain Dales Cross Cross Questions show about builders in London using Cargo bikes to get materials round..

Jay and I are thinking about giving it a go. What do you think?

PAYMENT PROTECTION SHOULD WORK FOR EVERYONE

Recent Government announcements about the Trusted Payments platform have started an important conversation about protecting homeowners during building projects.

At 4G Building Projects, clear and fair payment arrangements ALREADY begin from the day we are appointed:

• A detailed written contract setting out the work, price, programme and responsibilities.

• A 10% appointment payment with a clear purpose—covering pre-construction work such as Building Control, structural engineering, initial procurement and project mobilisation.

• The remaining balance divided into agreed stage payments linked to visible progress on site.

• Any variations priced, recorded and agreed before the additional work proceeds.

• A final balance retained until the agreed snagging work has been completed.

We welcome anything that raises standards and helps reputable builders stand apart from rogue operators. We are reviewing Trusted Payments as it rolls out and will only adopt it once we are satisfied that it works fairly for both homeowners and contractors on real extension, loft-conversion and renovation projects.

The principle is straightforward: customers deserve confidence over where their money is going, while every project must remain properly funded so it can be delivered safely, efficiently and to the agreed standard.

🏠 Progress Update | Ripon, North Yorkshire 🏠

We’re currently installing timber frame internal walls on one of our latest projects in Ripon, and it’s a great opportunity to highlight one of the key benefits of this construction method – speed.

We installed The timber frame internal skin in an hour and 8 minutes today on site, allowing us to:

✔️ Get the floor and roof installed sooner
✔️ Begin internal works earlier
✔️ Keep the project moving efficiently

While we push ahead inside, the bricklayer can continue working on the external brick skin at their own pace, navigating winter weather without holding up the overall programme.

The result? No delays, better workflow, and a smoother build from start to finish.
