Within the dense fabric of central Athens, this residential proposal explores the balcony as an inhabited threshold: a space where domestic life participates in the city.

The familiar horizontality of the Athenian polykatoikia is reworked through a sequence of undulating edges, introducing variation into the repetition of the residential floor. Expanding and contracting around the building, these contours form pockets of outdoor occupation, negotiating proximity, exposure and retreat. The corner becomes a moment of continuity, drawing the two street elevations into a single, unfolding composition.

What if a façade was conceived not as the boundary of a building, but as an active spatial condition?

This architectural exploration challenges the conventional relationship between structure, enclosure and ornament, transforming a seemingly simple geometric matrix into a complex, three-dimensional architectural language.

Through a continuous process of repetition, deformation and subtraction, the building’s envelope evolves into a sculptural system of interconnected solids and voids. Openings become spatial excavations, depth replaces flatness, and the façade acquires a sense of movement that shifts with light, perspective and occupation.

The composition unfolds through the juxtaposition of two contrasting architectural expressions: a monolithic, almost geological white volume and a darker, permeable lattice. Together, they establish a dialogue between mass and transparency, permanence and porosity, order and irregularity.

Rather than treating the façade as an applied aesthetic layer, the proposal explores its potential to become the very identity of the architecture — an immersive interface between the building, its inhabitants and the surrounding city.

An investigation into the possibilities of geometry, materiality and architectural expression.

In this residential concept, slender horizontal planes meet sweeping curves, tracing a fluid rhythm across the building. Alternating connections frame the terraces, giving each level its own relationship with light, views and the surrounding landscape.

From the clarity of morning to the quiet atmosphere of dusk, the façade reveals different depths: study in sculptural form and the possibilities of contemporary living.

What does your workspace say about your company?

For a cosmetics company, KKMK Architects brings offices, laboratories, meeting rooms, a café and an auditorium into a cohesive architectural proposal.
The design connects spaces for focused research, everyday collaboration and collective exchange, giving each its own character within a shared architectural language. Light, materiality and carefully composed transitions bring clarity and warmth to a complex working environment.

From the precision of the laboratory to the openness of shared spaces, architecture becomes a physical expression of the company’s identity, culture and ambitions.

CONDOR | Voula, Athens

A study in edges, light and balance.
Slender white planes extend beyond the building’s volume, shaping generous terraces and a rhythmic interplay of solid and void. Vertical walls punctuate the horizontal composition, framing views and creating sheltered outdoor spaces.

Between crisp geometry, water and Mediterranean planting, Condor brings an openness and quiet intimacy to urban living.

RUBRA | A Contemporary Urban Residence

Pangrati, Athens

A distinctive architectural presence emerges within the dense urban fabric of Athens.
RUBRA explores the dialogue between geometric precision and fluidity, where a rigorous façade grid meets softly curved balconies, creating a continuous rhythm of solid and void.

Its deep terracotta envelope gives the building a bold yet warm identity, while generous outdoor spaces introduce layers of greenery and openness into the urban landscape.

A contemporary interpretation of city living, where structure, materiality and movement come together to redefine the residential experience.

A New Vision for Workspaces & Laboratories

An exploration of fluidity, materiality, and architectural expression.
Conceived as a contemporary environment integrating workspaces and laboratories, this new project challenges the conventional boundaries of commercial architecture, introducing a dynamic dialogue between sculptural forms, transparency, and light.

Flowing architectural elements unfold across the façade, creating a continuous interplay of solid and void, while perforated surfaces, layered textures, and integrated greenery contribute to a distinctive architectural identity.

Bringing together spaces for work, research, and innovation, the design seeks to create an immersive architectural experience where functionality and aesthetics coexist.

The result is a contemporary environment that goes beyond its functional requirements, exploring new relationships between architecture, creativity, and the evolving nature of the workplace.

VILLA ARIADNE
Crete, Greece

Rooted in the Cretan landscape, Villa Ariadne explores a contemporary interpretation of the island’s architectural identity.

Low, horizontal volumes unfold across the terrain, forming a sequence of sheltered courtyards, shaded terraces and open living spaces, while stone-clad vertical elements rise from the composition as references to the robust simplicity of traditional Cretan structures.

Local stone, earthy plaster, timber and terracotta create a warm, tactile material palette, allowing the architecture to feel intrinsically connected to its surroundings. Water, vegetation and filtered light become part of the spatial experience, blurring the boundaries between architecture and landscape.
A house shaped by its place, grounded, elemental and distinctly Mediterranean.

FLUTED | Koukaki, Athens

An exercise in building upon the existing.
In the heart of Athens, a two-storey residence is preserved and extended vertically with three new levels. Rather than imitating the original architecture, the addition establishes its own identity through a rhythmic, fluted façade.
Deep vertical folds frame the openings, while marble planters and cascading vegetation introduce texture and softness. As architects, we are creating a dialogue between the existing structure and its contemporary extension.
