Creating these tiles is a meticulous journey that begins with pattern design and outline printing, followed by hand painting and coloring, trimming and sanding edges, baking, and finally affixing mesh. We conducted numerous mock-ups to refine coloring and stroking techniques, ensuring the final product meets our vision after baking. This careful and thoughtful process honors the artisan’s craft, and we cherish the collaboration, hoping that both the artistry and culture of Macau thrive alongside Arabica.

Drawing inspiration from the concierges of colonial theaters, our goal is to design a welcoming and accessible booth that bridges the world of coffee brewing with coffee enthusiasts. The Concierge concept features a central booth where the coffee counter serves as the focal point, providing Arabica’s customers with a seamless and luxurious experience reminiscent of a high-end hotel.

The coffee counter will be a standout feature at the shop front, showcasing the barista as they expertly prepare coffee and serve Arabica’s customers. This design not only enhances visibility but also creates an engaging atmosphere, inviting patrons to experience the artistry of coffee-making firsthand.

The iconic Portuguese Azulejo Tiles, characterized by their striking blue and white hues, are a defining element of Macau’s historical landmarks. These tiles not only reflect the unique cultural essence of the region but also symbolize its rich historical evolution. This cross-cultural connection resonates with our brand’s vision of “seeing the world through coffee.”

We have partnered with one of the last remaining Azulejo tile artisans in Macau to create a custom design that embodies the values of Arabica. By collaborating closely with the artisan, we developed a unique pattern that incorporates our brand logo. The process involves crafting hand-painted tiles arranged in a distinctive layout for both flooring and wall finishes.

A fast-growing metropolis, attuned to nature.

Inspired by the Shenzhen community’s wish to bring organic order back into urban life, our latest space is a curated blend of city textures and countryside calm.

We began with a pebble-wash floor foraged with branches, stones, and rocks, then layered in urban fragments of broken tiles and stones. The result is a radial, dot-art composition that diverges from the center column—it’s guided by the unpredictability of foraging to create a peaceful, balanced architectural feature.

Above it all, the store is wrapped in textured paint for a tactile, immersive environment. And at the heart of the experience, we anchor the sink onto the column—floating between the tactile ceiling and the organic floor—so it becomes the space’s true focal point.

The flooring pattern reflects our first imagination—created by sedimenting found objects gathered across both the city and countryside of Shenzhen, a fast-developing metropolis that is becoming increasingly attuned to nature.

We aim to express the pattern’s scale and the relationships between colors. Shaped by the objects we collect, the radial design forms an intriguing composition—organically guided—where unexpected elements give rise to a new order. We gather natural materials such as branches and seeds, alongside urban fragments like broken tiles, and then assemble them through a pebble-wash technique. Finally, these found pieces are cemented into the flooring, creating a calm and peaceful balance.

Our inspiration draws from the history of development and echoes the Shenzhen community’s passion to restore organic order to the current urban life. With a natural passion for nature and a desire to reintegrate it into urban daily life, one notable activity the community has developed over the decades is nature foraging from the forest and bringing it back into the city for replanting, herbal use, or reseeding. The process is driven by what they find, rather than predetermined, making each visit unique. The beauty of this process lies in the surprises of what you discover each time.
The organic unpredictability of this foraging-collecting process inspires us. We envision the store as a canvas for such collections, architecturally resembling a patterned artwork that diverges from structural columns, becoming a bespoke partner with a soft resemblance to dot artwork, which culturally often associates with the order of nature.

Macao local teahouses don’t rely on fancy décor or glamorous backdrops. More often, they’re set in a simple, built-in base and use functional furniture—plus screens and tables—to create a relaxed, laid-back atmosphere. For many, the teahouse is like a living room, where everyday life unfolds slowly, complemented by personal hobbies such as plants and calligraphy as meaningful, one-of-a-kind touches.

This interior concept distills the spirit of the teahouse into a calming blue-toned palette, inspired by its historic feel and serene atmosphere. The display area is finished with crisp ceramic white tiles, while a warm wooden frame softly highlights the products—adding a balanced contrast and enhancing the overall sense of comfort and quiet charm.

Macao is a place where Western and Chinese cultures intersect. However, unlike the neighboring fast-pace city, Macao has a relatively calm and relaxed culture, and this nutures to many of its living traditions and rich multi-culture cityscape.

We are drawn by one of Macau’s multi-culture examples: The Long Hua Teahouse. The Chinese-style tea house is nestled within modern Western Bauhaus architecture. Due to Macau’s tropical climate, modern architecture has evolved into a local style that features recessed open-air hallways and ventilation blocks. It includes a balcony and walls adorned with geometric circular perforations, making it a distinctive cross-cultural design unique to Macao.

The result is a distilled space that revives cultural memory, capturing the elegance of Macao’s daily life through a cross-cultural spatial transformation.

We incorporated these design elements into the creation of a striking lamp shade that beautifully illuminates the central basins, inviting customers to explore our diverse range of formulations for skin, hair, and body care, all in a soothing environment with running water. To balance the coolness of the metal and echo the material and slanted forms of the shelves in Uncle Cheung’s foundry, we chose timber for the joinery. This warm material serves as a perfect backdrop for displaying amber bottles, which are arranged meticulously, reminiscent of small stamps of letters and numbers. For those eager to immerse themselves in our unique offerings of unconventional Eaux de Parfum, a recessed alcove houses the Fragrance Armoire, providing an intimate space for exploration. Guests can relax on a comfortable sofa, contemplating further olfactory possibilities while leisurely browsing through an array of home aromas. Additionally, they can engage in meaningful discussions about their personal skincare needs with our knowledgeable consultants, ensuring a personalized and enriching experience. This thoughtfully designed space invites exploration and interaction, enhancing the overall customer experience.

Inspired by Uncle Cheung’s remarkable craftsmanship, we designed a lamp shade that draws from the shape of the raw tin blocks used in his work for the sink and counter. These original tin blocks are critical materials for type casting; they are melted down in a specialized machine and then injected into molds to create each individual type-stamp. Uncle Cheung graciously demonstrated how the machine operates, guiding us through the entire process of creating the cast, which was incredibly inspiring and deeply influenced our design approach. In addition to incorporating the unique form of the tin blocks, we also integrated Mr. Cheung’s signature type-stamp into the lamp shade for the counter, paying homage to his artistry. This blend of traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design not only honors Uncle Cheung’s legacy but also creates a functional piece of art that captures the essence of his work. The lamp shade serves as a tribute to the rich history of type casting while adding a modern touch to the space.
