Irish weather doesn't exactly wait for a convenient time to spring a leak.

A small leak in the roof, gutter, shed or another outdoor surface can quickly become a much bigger headache — especially once the rain arrives.

This Tec7 Spray & Seal is basically rubber in a can. Spray it directly onto the area, let it cure and it forms a waterproof layer.

It's one of those products you won't think about until you suddenly really need it.

Painted your bathroom walls… but the damp keeps coming back?

Don’t just paint over it again.

Before you reach for another tin of paint, put on your detective hat and figure out where the moisture is actually coming from.

It could be:
💧 Water getting in from outside
💨 Condensation and poor ventilation
🚿 A leak from a pipe, sink, shower or trap

Once you know the source, you can actually fix the problem — instead of repainting the same wall every few months.

Because paint can cover a damp patch, but it can't fix what's causing it.

You probably have an extractor fan in your bathroom… but when was the last time you checked that it actually works?

Your extractor is there to help remove moisture and humid air. If it stops working properly, all that moisture has to go somewhere and that can contribute to condensation, damp and mould.

So next time you're in the bathroom, switch it on and check it.

If it's not doing its job, don't ignore it. Get it sorted before a small ventilation problem turns into a bigger damp problem.

It’s €110, so it’s not the cheapest option, but Colin reckons it’s one of the most comfortable and best-regulated ones he’s found.

Got a brown stain on the ceiling? Don't paint over it just yet.

Before you reach for the paint, find out what's causing it.

It could be an old leak or you could still have water getting in. Check what's directly above the stain, watch whether it's changing, and make sure the source has actually been fixed.

Only then should you deal with any damaged plaster, prepare the surface and choose the right primer and paint.

Fix the problem first. Fix the ceiling second.

Before winter arrives, there are a few simple things you can do to make your home more comfortable without immediately reaching for the thermostat.

From putting reflective material behind your radiators to blocking draughts around doors and windows, small changes can make a noticeable difference.

And if you're drying clothes indoors, swapping some tumble-dryer use for a more efficient clothes dryer could help too.

Get your home ready before the cold really kicks in.

Colin is a self-confessed DeWalt fan… so when he says he might be switching, you know the competition is serious.

The Einhell 18V drill comes with a 2.5Ah battery for €69, compared with the roughly €220 Colin spent on his DeWalt setup.

Same job. Different price. And apparently, Colin is impressed.

Looks like a Dyson. Costs a lot less.

This €149 air purifier heater does a bit of everything — heats in winter, cools in summer and filters the air with built-in HEPA filtration.

And because it’s quiet, it’s particularly handy for the bedroom. Better air, a more comfortable temperature and potentially a better night’s sleep — without spending €600.

Had mould in the bathroom last winter, but it disappeared over summer?

As the temperature drops, condensation and moisture can bring it back — especially in bathrooms.

The important thing is don’t just paint over it. Clean and treat the mould first, prep the surface properly, then use the right primer and bathroom-suitable paint.

Get the prep right now and you’ll have a much better chance of keeping those walls looking good through the winter.

Not sure what you need? Drop into Decwells and ask the team. Real advice, from people who know paint.
