Choosing a beautiful wood flooring for your home is an exciting step, but it’s also a big investment: so getting it right matters! ✨
We’ve been helping our clients choose the perfect wood flooring for over 30 years, and these are the 4 questions we always start with:
☀️ 1. What type of light does your room get and when do you most use the room?
Light influences colour, so it'll impact how different shades will look & feel in your space and at different times of day. Always test samples in different light conditions to see how they respond. You might be surprised how different they look.
🌿 2. How much natural character would you like your floor to have? Different grades of timber have different amounts of natural variation, so it's important to choose one that suits your style. More rustic grades will have larger knots and more colour variation, and these will be more visible in lighter shades.
📐 3. What size and shape is your room?
Choosing wider planks can make a big room feel more intimate, whilst narrower planks or smaller planks can make a smaller one feel more generous. A Parquet laid in herringbone will makes a narrower space feel wider and is a great solution for L shaped rooms where getting the direction of planks right can be tricky.
🐾 4. How do you live in the space and what will your floor have to cope with?
Textured or aged floors hide a myriad of sins, especially in a mid tone, whilst darker or paler floors tend to be a bit less forgiving. A flat matt finish might appeal in the showroom, but in practice it will need much more maintenance than a matt satin option to stay looking good.ation soon?
