Holy Trinity National School is a co educational school situated in the heart of beautiful Westport. We have three classrooms. Junior Infants, Senior Infants and 1st Class are in the Junior Classroom. 2nd, 3rd and 4th Class are in the Middle Room and 5th and 6th Class are in the Senior Room. In our small school environment all pupils and staff get to know each other very well and many strong relationships and friendships are formed among our pupils. All our pupils are valued and respected and experience a sense of caring and belonging. Our school is under the patronage of The Church of Ireland and also welcomes children from different faiths and none. We currently have a number of families from different faiths and we enjoy learning from each other. Our school caters for children with various special educational needs as well as for children whose first language is not English. We have a learning support / resource teacher and a special needs assistant. On a weekly basis our children enjoy drama lessons, tin whistle lessons and Irish dancing lessons with specialist teachers. We also have after-school soccer for middle room and senior room pupils. Throughout the school year pupils participate in many whole school activities including our annual Christmas concert, an Irish dancing and music performance, gardening club, Westport Art's festival activities, Active week, Friendship Week and a variety of other activities. Our senior pupils also enjoy gaelic training, spike ball, cross country running, Greenway cycles, quizzes. Click on whole school activities to see more details of these activities and others. Developing an appreciation by pupils of Ireland's culture, traditions and language is an integral part of the school's educational activities.

The Senior Room had fun making ghosts (púcaí) using convection currents with Pukka 'Uplift' teabags by funny conincidence, and using magnets to fly others.
Thanks to Arya for the delicious Halowe'en buns she baked to share with everyone.

We were so lucky to have Artist Burns from working with the Senior Room today (and Middle Room-see previous post). They made Spooky, Scary, Creative Masks using Burlap fabric, pipe cleaners, beads and tonnes of imagination. We had the best fun, thanks so much Breda from everyone.
All part of the plans for the Westival Morshúil na Samhna, Honouring our Ancestors - join the fun and celebrations with lanterns, music, colour and masks in procession around the streets of the town at 7pm from the town centre 31st October.

The Middle Room have been very busy this month, they've been exploring autumn through creative leaf printing! They used leaves to create beautiful butterflies and trees, experimenting with different colours, shapes and patterns.

We also had a special visit from Artist Breda Burns today who joined us for some Halloween creativity! The children enjoyed getting involved in creating their very own Halloween masks, exploring their imaginations and having lots of fun along the way

Our Senior Room in Holy Trinity N.S. were delighted to take part in the 'Spooky Scary Things in Space' Workshop by Deirdre Kelleghan at Westport Library last Thursday. They looked at a few creepy things in space. Deirdre drew the Perseus Cluster which looks like a screaming skull and the children followed using pastels. They added some teeth for a little bit of Halloween fun🎃 and the Mayo Dark Skies symbol.

They learned about the location of this Galaxy Cluster and the Double Cluster of stars which is visible to the naked eye in the dark skies of Mayo. They also drew their own maps of Perseus in pencil, marking the locations of both.

There is no sound in space but the children enjoyed listening to the sonification sounds NASA has created from digital data and images from space telescopes which to the ear are very creepy indeed.

See the link below for Deirdre's workshop which is now part of the Mayo Dark Skies Fringe Festival.

Congratulations to our champion Irish dancer Jenny, winner of Meangrad 11-13 at Féile Rince Mhaigheo in Claremorris last weekend.
Jenny gives Irish dancing her all in school and with classes and practice during the week, with Bernadine Cresham-Ball, great to see her hard work and commitment rewarded.
It was lovely that she brought in her trophies and medals to school so we could celebrate with her. We're proud of your efforts and achievements Jenny. 🏆🥇💐
