Chitrashaala

Chitrashaala Chitrashaala, an international residency programme pays homage to this legacy by bringing together noteworthy artists from India and overseas.

The impact of a space on creative output cannot be stressed enough. From architecture to music to art, the state continues to fascinate artists across genres. This international residency programme pays homage to this legacy by bringing together forty noteworthy artists from India and overseas. Rajasthan’s artistic character gives precedence to the freedom of the creative spirit, nature and aesthetic imperatives in the midst of a universalist. It also gives artists the opportunity of increasing and developing their artistic experience, thus initiating a process of the exchange of ideas. In particular, it allows artists to work in a new context and to combine their own experience with the local one, creating a positive and illuminating example of integration.

Concept of the Art:
I carve spaces where the tangible world cracks open to reveal what lies beneath—the weight of memory, the quiet absurdity of existence, and the unspoken dialogue between decay and creation.
My work does not seek to answer, but to sit with the unsettling logic of dreams. Through surrealist symbolism, skeletal frameworks, and shifting light, I reconstruct the self—fragmented, evasive, and constantly unraveling across cosmic blues, deep earth tones, and fragile flora. Each canvas becomes an architecture for thoughts that have no shape, a mirror turned inward to capture what lingers in the shadow of consciousness.

Concept: This work shows how peaceful it can be in the hills. Away from all the noise of society, I was able to emerge in myself through nature. It simply brought back the lost pieces to me. I pasted the flowers that were collected from near the studio area as a representation of preserving the memories that I had there.

Concept of the Art:
Connections are so deep-rooted, interlinked, generating always and constantly new roots and branches, and leaves, that finally there is no way of been isolated because we are made from the same matter.
Every journey is for me an expedition and at the same time a private room

Concept of the art project:
This project operated within a space where form oscillated between appearance and disappearance, where movement was not captured in a moment of completion, but was perceived as a trace.
Dancing postures emerged as shadows and fleeting rhythms, without solid form or defined features, transforming movement into visible time rather than a represented body.
As Maurice Merleau-Ponty states, “What is visible is not what is fully given to the eye, but what is formed through the act of seeing.”
Drawing from the silent logic of miniature art, perspective dissolved and time unfolded into overlapping layers, where presence was no longer the opposite of absence, but a fluid state shaped by the blending of form and trace — between what appears and what lingers in memory.

This painting is an Exploration of the feminine spirit as a symbol of freedom, transportation and harmony with nature. The swirling cloud surrounding the figure represents the transient yet powerful forces of life. The intricate floral and folk patterns in the figure reflect my deep interest in traditional Indian visual culture. I seek to create a dialogue between traditional and contemporary expression. This painting carries the memories that define us, and the eternal movement of spirit towards freedom and self-realization.

This work explores the relationship between beauty and time through the image of flowers in the process of withering and losing their freshness. Although they are in a state of decay, they still retain their form, intricate details, and a certain lingering charm. The flowers thus become symbols of beauty that cannot endure forever.
The background, reminiscent of the vast expanse of outer space, reflects the eternity of the universe, while the life and beauty of all things exist only temporarily. This contrast between what endures and what gradually fades invites viewers to reflect on the idea that the value of beauty lies not in its permanence, but in the fleeting moments of its existence.
Ultimately, the work serves as an invitation to embrace change, decay, and impermanence as essential parts of the cycle of life.

The artist’s work is inspired by the symbolic legacy of ancient civilizations and their enduring cultural narratives. Rather than recreating historical imagery, he reinterprets these symbols through a contemporary visual language shaped by his own artistic vision. Drawing on sources such as Ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia, the works transform elements of the past into personal reflections that resonate with the present. Through this approach, the artist creates a dialogue between heritage and modernity, where history becomes a source of imagination, exploration, and renewed meanin.

My name is Sumana Sur,I apply my work process in mixed media. Applying on canvas , acrylic colour, charcoal and other materials. And I am very comfortable with mixed media , and this process, I am very comfortable with Highlighting in my art work, common emerging thought and explain them in my own words from my point of view. My present art works focus on a nature space, in this space where my surrounding situation, experience, feelings, love, hope, desire, everything has to be one. I search everything through different subject and object.

I arrange them in a single space after modifying and combining their objectivity in one space. MY aim of the whole process of there arrangements is to consciously transform mundane reality into a state of subconscious or parallel reality or surreal. I am doing my art work , acrylic colour, charcoal canvas and all these are a part of nature and I am included in it. Monochromatic space where the subconscious is a space of the imagination.

In my painting, the landscape a mindscape complements each other and all enclose with internal structure . In inner world landscape, Indian unique landscape , my imagination, difference and stunningly multifarious in breadth & scope , and the earth is too suffused with struggling life. So inter wind infinite beauty of inner world. Trees are born of my spirit, hope and lots of desire and happiness. Find a Roots in everything my energy. This roots are my spirit and my spirituality. That can give me a new birth, in which connect me to the earth.

This series of paintings presents the image of women as a “Divine Mother” figure surrounded by scenes of war, violence, explosions, soldiers, and tanks. Although these elements seem to contrast with the gentle image of women, the artist views women and mothers as symbols of creation, protection, and the sustaining power of humanity.

The works reflect the idea that all people are born from the same origin and share the same world. Through feminine symbolism, the paintings encourage viewers to recognize the destruction caused by war and to reflect on the importance of peace, compassion, and the value of humanity.

This work is a result of my ongoing metaphysical enquiry into the fundamental nature of existence. At the centre, two mirrored organic forms rise like lungs, seed pods, repositories of memory — carrying within them traces of germination, erosion, and renewal. Floating spores, root-like veins, insects, and flowering structures drift across the surface, suggesting unseen cycles of transformation and becoming.

Rendered in limited earthy tones, the composition possesses both scientific precision and poetic intimacy. The work invites prolonged contemplation, revealing itself slowly through intricate textures and layered symbolism. It speaks to the interconnectedness of all living forms — where decay nourishes growth, fragility holds resilience, and the body becomes a vessel of transformation, continuity, and quiet endurance.
