Who said dark colours make a home feel heavy?

Inside Vanitha Joshi’s Bangalore home, deep blues, rich reds and moody greens coexist without overwhelming the space. The secret lies in how they’re balanced.

Bold furniture sits against quieter walls. Richly patterned surfaces are offset by softer, neutral tones. And where colours compete for attention, mirrors, natural light and carefully placed contrasts give the eye room to breathe.

It’s a lesson in colour that goes beyond choosing the right shades. Sometimes, what makes a bold colour work isn’t the colour itself, but what you place around it.

How much of your home is designed for the life you actually live?

At Courtyard of Colors, a couple gave over a bedroom to long dinners with friends and family, made space for a cosy den, and expanded the kitchen that anchors their everyday routine.

Across 1,500 sq. ft., that same confidence shapes the interiors. Jodhpur’s vibrancy meets the cinematic richness of Art Deco: old Rajasthani panels become a storeroom door, a passage evokes a stepwell beneath your feet, and a mirrored teak ceiling reflects the dining table’s mother-of-pearl inlay.

The brief was to embrace colour and Indian craft. What emerged feels like a home with room for both everyday rituals and a little theatre.

Most 3BHKs give every room one name and one job. This one refuses to.

Designed by homeowners Anusha and Kamlesh, the apartment was planned around a family whose needs keep changing not a floor plan frozen in time. Spaces appear simple, then quietly transform when needed.

It’s the kind of home that makes you wonder how much more your own 3BHK could be doing.

The challenge with traditional interiors is knowing how much to carry into a modern apartment.

In Sundar and Lakshmi’s 1,500 sq ft Bangalore home, two 80-year-old wooden pillars give the living room its identity. Around them, cane furniture, banana-leaf greens and earthy upholstery create a palette that continues into the dining area.

But each room changes the balance. The master bedroom moves towards lighter oak and cane; Amma’s room pairs her familiar teak furniture with quieter finishes. In the kitchen, burgundy and beige introduce a different mood altogether.

That’s what makes this home interesting: a shared design language, with enough variation for every room to feel individual.

Swipe through a home that offers plenty to borrow, especially if you love traditional Indian interiors but want room for your own interpretation.

The home bar has moved far beyond the standard counter and a couple of stools.

Today, it might be carved into an awkward corner, concealed inside cabinetry, built across a balcony, treated almost like furniture, or turned into the visual centre of a room.

What makes these spaces interesting isn’t their size. It’s how differently each one responds to the home around it.

From sculptural statement bars to compact cabinets and beautifully layered built-ins, here are 10 home bars that make clever use of their corners.

Which approach would work best in your home?
