Design Studio that blends large architectural ideas to minute interior design details. ARA Design is a young and dynamic Architecture, Urbanism & Design firm.

From large architectural ideas to the smallest of furniture details, our work seamlessly weaves interior and exterior spaces. Founded by Amey Dahanukar (MA Urban Design, UK) in 2011, he is also a partner of Dahanukar Associates and the inspiration behind the ARA design. It has been exhilarating five-year journey with a steep learning curve. Be it architecture, interior, furniture, object or landscape, the firm guides every project from conception with passion and commitments.

The design begins at the threshold; where stone, timber and integrated greenery come together to shape the arrival experience. This material language extends into the façade through a composition of layered frames, vertical fins and recessed balconies.

We wanted the family room to feel like the part of the house where design quietly becomes part of everyday life.
The room was built around a simple material vocabulary of warm oak and soft neutrals. The timber continues across the walls and ceiling, giving the space a sense of continuity, while the upholstered sofa and deep blue chairs bring in the comfort.

The 7-foot-long Ashtavinayak Ganpati by Ramesh Gorjala adds color and movement to an otherwise restrained palette, serving as the visual anchor of the room without clashing with the architecture.

We wanted each space to have its own character, but still feel like it belongs to the same home.
As one moves beyond the living room, the home gradually softens. The materials become warmer, the atmosphere more intimate, and the spaces more reflective of how we live as a family.

The design of the room began with the warmth of wood, a material that became the thread running through the home and gave the room its sense of continuity.
Against it, we kept the palette quiet- soft whites, muted greys and carefully layered textures, allowing the materiality to take centre stage.

Before a residence takes shape as a built volume, its elevation establishes the architectural language -defining proportion, rhythm, materiality and the relationship between the home and its setting.

For Belleza Vaddo, the façade draws from the architectural character of Goa, reinterpreting its traditional vocabulary through a composed arrangement of arched openings, timber doors, french windows, balconies and ornamental railings, while the white rendered walls and layered landscape reinforce its connection to the tropical setting.

The Hostel Block at the Training Centre is designed as an architectural representation of growth in its early stages, inspired by the shape of an unopened Blue Iris bud. Its curved forms and circular design create a distinct identity while allowing the block to remain closely connected to the landscape.

The planning incorporates landscaped courtyards, mature trees, shaded outdoor areas and open edges, which enhance the flow of daylight and ventilation, fostering a continuous relationship with nature in everyday life.

Location: Lonavala
Area: 1,03,300 sq.ft
