We started in a 450 sq ft mezzanine in lower parel. one walnut
trunk served as desk, drafting table, and dining table. the racks
held what we were making. the library held what we were reading.
years of work later, that same desk is in mahim. same racks, same
library. the ceiling is taller now, the streets are quieter, and in the
evenings the light comes in from the west and settles across the
same wood it always has.
the entrance is new. a door of fluted glass in an acrylic frame,
every hinge and bolt left visible through it. outside, a shutter
painted बंद. closed. we think a studio entrance should have
something to say.
some things you build once and carry forward. most things you
keep figuring out.

Bistro Cameo .blr sits on the rooftop of the Museum of Art and Photography in Bengaluru, a long space enclosed with sliding aluminium windows that open fully in good weather, bringing Cubbon Park and the city into the room. The structural language of the building, designed by Mathew and Ghosh Architects, stayed: the columns were painted crimson, the ceiling left to its own geometry. Locally sourced bamboo fibre lamps hang above the tables. The stainless steel ledge along the parapet, placed there originally by Mathew and Ghosh, was retained and given new seating — a place for a single diner to eat with the city in front of them. The artworks on the walls are from MAP’s collection. The food is by Kanishka Sharma and Pallavi Menon of Navu.

Bar Cameo .blr sits on the rooftop of the Museum of Art and Photography in Bengaluru, a building designed by Mathew and Ghosh Architects that sets a high bar for what it means to add to someone else’s work. The brief we gave ourselves was simple: continue the language of the building, not depart from it.
The space was previously the museum’s members’ lounge, with two ceiling conditions that worked against each other. Undulating mirrored panels at various angles soften that contrast, and ensure the room has no fixed reading of its own dimensions. Colour comes from whoever is in it. The walls are deep green, the counter brushed stainless steel, fabricated from a single sheet by Studio Vinton in Kochi. Two papier mache tiger heads used in Pili Vesha, the folk dance of coastal Karnataka, remain exactly where they always stood. The Air India posters on the walls are on loan from MAP’s collection, rotated by Abhishek Poddar.
Each space was built in under two weeks. The bar programme is led by Hemant Mundkur, and the food by Kanishka Sharma and Pallavi Menon of Navu. A project by Investorant, in collaboration with Studio Pomegranate.

Under 500 square feet on 12th Main, and it holds two cities at once.
Baan Phad Thai has been running out of Bangkok for 50 years. Six Michelin Bib Gourmands. A city that knows its food, giving it the nod, repeatedly. When they decided to open in India, they came to Indiranagar, and we got to design the space.
We came in with one idea: the room should feel like it exists in Bangkok and Bangalore at the same time. Not Thai-themed, not a tribute, just genuinely of both places. The room is warm and close, the kind of close where conversations from the next table find their way into yours. There are photographs. There is a wine bar. Thirty seats that somehow never feel like thirty seats, until you’re trying to get one.
One of our favourite projects from last year.
