The Checkerboard Loft | 2000 sqft heritage apartment in South Mumbai where we kept the arches but added glamour.

Botticino + Black Marquina inlay carpet flowing into bar. White walls, grey arched bar unit matching the original windows.

Sed this to someone who says heritage home cant be glam too !

The checkerboard Loft~ Timeless elegance in the heart of Mumbai

The master bedroom is defined by its seamless aesthetic, with a camouflaged wardrobe and bathroom door discreetly integrated into white-paneled walls accented with black moldings. The adjoining bathroom offers a striking contrast, exuding allure with Statuario marble flooring inlaid with brass, Black Marquina dado cladding, and a bold black-and-white striped feature wall behind the vanity mirror.

Alongside our core work, we are honored to serve the Indian Armed Forces by designing a Vertical Wind Tunnel — an advanced free-fall simulator for training our paratroopers. This facility will enable year-round, risk-reduced training for Combat Free Fall operations, strengthening operational readiness.

There are homes that are designed. And then there are homes that are interpreted. This 2,000sqft residence tucked within a splendid heritage building in an upscale Mumbai neighbourhood, belongs firmly to the second category.

For Akash Dudhe, principal architect at SAGI Architects, the brief was specific and
demanding in equal measure. The clients wanted a luxurious home that honoured the bones of the original structure without being enslaved by them. The design response was elegant…let the heritage speak and let every contemporary addition amplify rather than compete with what already existed.
