USC House | Understanding the Facade, layer by layer.

Strategy

The south-facing facade presented multiple challenges, including harsh sunlight, heavy rainfall exposure, structural limitations of the existing building and a constrained budget.

After evaluating several high-impact materials, the project adopted stone veneer sheets as a cost-effective and sustainable solution.

These ultra-thin layers of natural stone—extracted from slate, quartzite, sandstone, and marble—are bonded to a fiberglass backing, producing a lightweight yet durable surface.

- Isometric Detail

The facade assembly consists of a stainless steel subframe supporting AAC (Autoclaved Aerated Concrete) panels, onto which the stone veneer is applied. The palette uses red Agra stone and black slate, creating a textured yet restrained expression that responds to both climate and context while minimizing material load on the existing structure.

Altan | weekend home

Situated amidst serene landscapes, this 2,000-square-foot weekend home near Ahmedabad epitomizes a visionary approach to sustainable design.

Driven by the homeowners’ dedication to an eco-friendly and vegan lifestyle, sustainability and local craftsmanship took precedence at every stage of construction.

Reclaimed wood was favoured over new timber, and natural materials like cane and lime plaster were used extensively.

The cosy bedroom on the first floor boasts a four-poster bed as its centrepiece, set against interestingly designed closet doors serving as the backdrop.

These doors are adorned with block-printed fabrics sourced from ‘Mashroo’ by Neha Mala

Additionally, an exquisite Kashmiri rug, a cherished collectible, found its rightful place in this bedroom. The rug with vibrant hues and intricate patterns enhances the monochromatic room’s charm and character.

The lounge chairs in both bedrooms are from Tectona Grandis Furniture

The pigments in the lime plaster were sourced from natural stone dust instead of synthetic alternatives.

Harmoniously blending elements was key, hence the wooden furniture with intricate cane work and rustic-toned upholstery, exuding warmth and character

Massive sliding doors connect this double-height space with the garden outside, infusing the room with abundant natural light and ventilation.

The living room exudes a rustic and old-worldly charm, nestled beneath a pitched roof.

// When the window becomes the art installation.

For the director’s cabin conference zone, the north-facing window is paired with a perforated MDF sliding screen. Rather than simply covering the window with curtains, the screen allows the incoming light to be filtered, creating shifting patterns of light and shadow within the space. It can be slid across the window whenever the light feels too harsh, making the window both a functional light-control element and an artwork in itself.

We’re looking for curious minds with a strong sense of space, material, proportion and an eagerness to explore ideas that can translate into meaningful architecture.

From concept to detail, we believe good architecture comes from being deeply involved in the process and enjoying every bit of it.

If designing is something you genuinely love doing, we’d like to hear from you.

(Residential apartment turned into a corporate office)

Project Name: USC House: Adaptive Reuse of a Residential Block into an Integrated Corporate Residential Program

Gross Built Area (ft2): 5,100 sq.ft.

Set within the dense urban fabric of Vadodara, Studio RobustNeev reimagines a four-storey residential structure as a hybrid environment combining corporate workspaces and housing. Occupying a compact 2410 sq ft plot, the project negotiates tight spatial and structural constraints through a strategy of precise
reorganization rather than extensive reconstruction, retaining the integrity of the original framed system.

The program is distributed to maximize efficiency and clarity:
the ground level accommodates parking and storage,
the first and fourth floors house corporate offices, and
the intermediate floors remain residential.

Each level is rationalized into three interdependent systems : 1) services, 2) circulation and 3) occupied space - allowing for a disciplined spatial order. Existing service ducts are repurposed for plumbing and HVAC, while electrical systems are consolidated into vertical shafts, seamlessly integrated into the design framework.

Originally configured as two separate apartments connected by a narrow passage, each floor presented a
fragmented entry experience. This constraint is resolved through the introduction of a new deck slab, unifying the units into a continuous open plan. The resulting spatial flow is articulated by the existing column-beam grid, transforming circulation into a more legible and generous sequence.

Designing a corporate space beyond the conventional✨

Ojas// A light designed as architecture.

This sculptural light stands at 9′-6″, extending vertically from floor to ceiling as part of the space itself.

Its form is built around carefully considered proportions — changing widths, curves and transitions that create rhythm as the eye moves along its length.

The intention was to make something that does more than illuminate. The light becomes a vertical architectural element, adding presence even when it is switched off.

From the initial sketch to the final form, every dimension was designed with the space in mind.
