Ghost Ship by Cory Hanson

Haven’t been able to stop listening to this song since I heard it last week so inevitably I vomited it out and recorded it for public display cos my ego told me that would fix me.

We welcome our students and the broader public back for the first lecture of the academic year: beginning with the ‘proto-rennaisance’, we discuss the Tuscan works of Giotto Di Bondone- “The Father of Modern Painting” - but through the lens of the destructive forces that our most important artistic achievements face, alongside civilization itself. What we have almost lost and the determination of those who would protect it. 08/10/2026 Charles H. Cecil Studios

As I’m spending some extended time in England I decided to photograph these three portraits in their frames which were all made in Florence by Filippo Franceschi

The Franceschi family have been providing hand made frames for Charles and his students for as long as the Studios at Borgo San Frediano have existed. Situated opposite our front door, on via San Giovanni, the relationship of the two artisanal operations is an example of how artistically collaborative living and working south side of the river in Florence can still be.

All portraits painted Charles H. Cecil Studios using the method - from life, to the scale of life, under natural light and with no recourse to photography.

Spencer the Rover by John Martyn

Me and Andrea

The thing about John Martyn is that he’s totally flawed, an absolute addict, the worst type of person you could hope to love but because of all that the pain and love that he pours into his music becomes the most real expression of a wandering soul you could hope to hear. His only equivalent would be Townes at his best. I lie in bed and wish they were alive but then I remind myself they would be so disappointed in this damned and hollow world. Long live Andrea, smash the status quo.

We come to France at the dawn of the 19th century where opposing artistic movements reflect volatile sociopolitical tensions, philosophical reform and outright revolution - changing the western world in ways that we still feel today and ushering in the first age of modern painting. - 04/06/26
