🥩 Caramelized Soy-Glazed Pork Belly
🛒 Ingredients
• 500g pork belly, cut into thick strips or bite-sized pieces
• 1 teaspoon salt
• 1 teaspoon black pepper
• 1 teaspoon garlic powder
• 1 teaspoon chicken bouillon powder
• 2 tablespoons brown sugar
• 3 tablespoons soy sauce
• 1 tablespoon cooking oil (optional)
👨🍳 Instructions
Step 1:
Slice the pork belly into thick, even pieces. Pat dry with a paper towel for a better sear.
Step 2:
Season all sides with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and chicken bouillon. Let it rest for 10–15 minutes.
Step 3:
Heat a cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat until it's very hot. If needed, add a small amount of oil.
Step 4:
Place the pork belly into the skillet in a single layer. Let it cook undisturbed for 3–4 minutes until a golden crust forms and the fat begins to render.
Step 5:
Flip each piece and cook for another 3–4 minutes until both sides are beautifully browned while the inside stays juicy and tender.
Step 6:
Sprinkle the brown sugar evenly over the pork belly. Let it melt and caramelize for about 30–60 seconds.
Step 7:
Pour in the soy sauce. Toss and coat every piece until the sauce thickens into a rich, glossy glaze.
Step 8:
Cook for another 1–2 minutes, then remove from the heat. Don't overcook—the pork should remain juicy with a soft, melt-in-your-mouth center.
🍽️ Serving Suggestion
Slice the pork belly and serve with steamed jasmine rice, garlic fried rice, mashed potatoes, or roasted vegetables. Garnish with chopped spring onions or sesame seeds if desired.
