Before adding technologies or systems, architecture can respond to its environment through decisions about orientation, shade, openings, materials and outdoor space.
At the Mama Ngina Cultural Centre, these principles can be seen in the screened façades, covered walkways, courtyards and landscaped spaces — creating different layers between the building and its environment.
We see sustainability as part of the design process — understanding the place first, then allowing that understanding to shape the building.
Sometimes, the most sustainable decision is also the simplest one. And often, it costs less.
