Dalool’s Kitchen

Dalool’s Kitchen Join me as we cook, share stories, and learn Arabic together through the universal language of food. Welcome to Dalool’s Kitchen!

I’m Dalal, but most people call me Dalool. My love for food started in my mom’s kitchen in Kuwait, and over time it grew into a deep passion for exploring different cultures, cuisines, and languages. Through my journey, I’ve found that food is more than just nourishment—it’s a way to connect with others and discover new worlds. I can’t wait to share my journey, flavors, and stories with you.

Farfalle means butterflies, capellini means thin hair and gemelli means twins. Most pasta shapes are named for how they look, and many of them are made to hold a certain kind of sauce. Which pasta name is your favorite?

Marie-Antoine Carême might sound like a woman's name, but the chef behind the tall white hat was a man. Legend says he stiffened a soft cap with cardboard so it stood up, and the taller the hat, the higher the rank. He's often called the world's first celebrity chef. Today most kitchens only need hair covered, so skull caps, bandanas and hair nets do the same job. Which would you cook in: the tall toque, a skull cap or a bandana?

In Kuwait, a phone call doesn't start with "How are you?" It starts with "Wainek?"

Hala, where are you, what are you doing, listen to me, I want to tell you something, do you need anything, and then yalla yalla bye bye. Twice, sometimes three times.

Which one are you? Tell me in the comments, and send this to the person who always asks where you are.

My first cookbook, From My Childhood Kitchen, is dedicated to my mother. It was inspired by my favorite recipes from growing up, so it’s a modern version of what she fed us and an homage to her cooking.

Inside are six chapters over 200 pages: soups, appetisers, salads, main courses, desserts, and spice mixes and sauces. Many of the recipes are freezer-friendly.

Comment CHILDHOOD and I’ll send you the link. And tell me, which chapter would you open first?
