Attended a talk by Ar. Kun Lim, a Malaysian architect now based in Seattle, Washington on 19 Aug 2026 at the Penang Institute. An inspiring sharing of his journey from Kedah to Seattle via Ireland, Louisiana, Houston, Philadelphia, Kuala Lumpur and now, Seattle.

When I returned from my studies in 1991, the first project that I worked on was the Penang Museum. Drawings then were all hand drawn; there was no scanner and photoshop. These were the series of drawings that depicted the circulation and the rooms to display the artifacts. And, the completed construction followed these set of drawings-even the display of the Penang Hill train. In 2017, the State announced that the museum was closed for renovation works.

It will be interesting to see what are the artifacts that will be displayed after this major renovation works.

I was invited to review the final studio project for RAS 306, Architecture Studio 4, 2nd Semester on 3 Jul 2026. The students are quite well versed with Sketchup, Lumion, D5 Render and are able to produce quite good walk through and artist impressions.

This project, which we worked on together with ATSA Architects Sdn. Bhd., is about to be handed over to purchasers. The project consists of 65 2 storey terrace houses and 4 units of 2 storey bungalows. It is a continuation of BP 2-3-1 where 106 units of various type of housing were completed. While the previous project used Monier Perspective Terracotta orange (for Bungalows) and Monier Elabana Sunkiss Orange (for Terrace) concrete roofing tiles, the color this time round is Titanium Black and Ebony.
