Yesterday, I got a WhatsApp message from someone I served with during my NYSC days.

“Chioma, do you still remember this guy?” He sent me the guy's picture.

“Yes, I remember him. He was our CLO.”

Then he told me he was deãd😭

I was shocked. He was so young and full of life.

It got me thinking about how fragile life really is. We honestly don’t know how much time we have.

So, live. Explore.
Stop hiding.
Stop postponing life.
Do the things that matter to you.
Make an impact.

Life is for the living.
Don’t just exist.
LIVE!

I went for a wedding today and it reminded me of how much my mindset about marriage has changed.

There was a time I would attend weddings and think, “Wow, I wish I was the one getting married.” 😂 I saw the dress, the excitement, the whole vibe.

But now, when I see people getting married, I’m like, “I wish you well o, but I hope you know the kind of work this thing requires.” 😂

Not pity, really. Just perspective.

Experience has a way of changing how you see things. I used to see the wedding; now I see the marriage behind the wedding.

My homemade seeds & nuts mix

This is one of the ways I prepare for school resumption. I make this nutritious seeds and nuts mix to fortify my children’s oats and pap; something they take almost every morning before school.

Ingredients:

✓Almonds (diced)

✓Pumpkin seeds

✓Cashew nuts

✓Flax seeds

✓Coconut (shredded)

✓Peanuts (groundnuts)

✓Honey

✓A pinch of cinnamon powder

Procedure:

1. Dice the almonds into small pieces.

2. In a bowl, combine almonds, pumpkin seeds, cashew nuts, and flax seeds.

3. Add honey and a pinch of cinnamon, then mix thoroughly.

4. Line an oven tray with parchment paper and spread the mixture evenly.

5. Roast in the oven on low heat, stirring occasionally to prevent burning.

6. When it starts getting crunchy and slightly brown, add the shredded coconut.

7. Return to the oven and continue roasting until golden brown.

8. Add the peanuts last, mix, and allow it heat for a few minutes.

9 Remove, let it cool, and store in an airtight container.

I use this every morning to fortify oats or pap, it’s delicious, crunchy, and my kids absolutely love it.

For days, his shop was empty… and I couldn’t shake the feeling that something wasn’t right.

There’s this elderly man I’m really fond of.
I call him Papa, he calls me “Choma Mbano” 😄

And he’s very consistent o.
Monday to Saturday, you’ll always see him in his shop.
Only Wednesdays; he rests...he told me it's his resting day.

So when I kept passing and not seeing him, it didn’t sit well with me…
I had to call him.
“Papa, I’ve not been seeing you. Hope you’re okay?”
He said, “I’m fine… I took my wife to the hospital.”

Just like that.
Meanwhile, he even mentioned he’s dealing with arthritis himself…
but his focus? His wife.
That touched me.

As we kept talking, I told him,
“Papa, now it’s just you and your wife at home… this is where companionship really matters abi?

He laughed… that deep, knowing laugh.
And papa said
The kind of relationship you build with your spouse when you’re young… is what you’ll live with when the children are gone.
If you pour everything into your children and neglect your partner, one day the children will leave…
And you may be left with a stranger.

But if you build friendship, love, and connection early…
Old age won’t be lonely.
It will be sweet.
As we talked, Papa started opening up more.
You won’t even know he’s a “big man.”
Very simple. Very neat. Very calm.

One day in his shop, he casually told me he used to work at the airport…
with an official car.
I just looked at him like, "This man eeeh" 😯
No noise. No pride. Just quiet dignity.

Only for me to even find out:
One son is a Reverend Father
One daughter is a nurse in the US
Life!
And what I love most about Papa?
Integrity.

When he talks, it’s wisdom you’ll hear. Nothing else.
Those are the kind of people I’m drawn to—men and women who have depth, character, and sense.

Now it’s just him and his wife.
Children are far away, doing well, sending support…
But at this stage?
It’s just the two of them.
Taking care of each other.
Showing up for each other.
And honestly… that conversation stayed with me.

Build your marriage.
Be friends with your partner.
Don’t wait till the house is empty.
Because one day… it will be just the two of you again.
And what you built… is what you’ll have.

My Papa is a good man❤️

So I had this conversation with one mum yesterday and I’ve been laughing since…

I told her, “School resumes on Monday o… I’m not even happy. Can they just extend this holiday small?”

This woman looked at me like I said something illegal 🤣

She said, “Ah! Please don’t say that again! I’m VERY happy school is resuming. Let these children go and face their teachers so I can rest!” 😂

She said, “When they go, I’ll just arrange my house in peace, buy my groceries, and enjoy myself small.”

Meanwhile me…

From Monday to Friday, I’m waking up by 4:30/5:00am like night watchman.

Wake up!

Brush your teeth!

Where is your socks?

Who took your book?!

Before 7am, my blood pressure has already attended morning devotion 🤣

Honestly, I’m always happiest when school is about to close. Holiday? That’s my season of joy

But this woman said when school is closing, she starts getting worried…

I said ah ah… is it the same children we are raising? 😂

Now I’m confused…

Mothers in the house, please be honest:

Are you team “Thank God school has resumed” 😌

Or team “Can they extend holiday small?”

Because at this point, I need to know where I belong.

I have a small garden where I plant cassava. Last year, I planted as usual, but I didn’t have time to w**d or apply poultry manure like I normally do because of work.

I harvested the cassava this morning, and I was amazed at the yield. I honestly didn’t expect much since I hadn’t paid much attention to the farm.

I’m so grateful to God.
