What a stunning morning at Edible Garden Ltd this morning, hardly feels like work at all. A day to celebrate the beautiful Spring day that it is, sunshine, no wind and beautiful blossom and flowers everywhere 🌞🌸💚🐝

Open this week Wednesday to Friday 9-4 (sorry likely closed this Saturday due to a hospital stay for Holly 🩷🌸😮‍💨) we will see how the week pans out.

So come and see me I the next few days, apples, pears, figs, grapes all looking fantastic, plus all the berry fruit us on another level being covered in buds and blooms. Also herbs, and some asiatic Lilly’s available (colours are unknown 🩷❤️💛)

I am off to pot up the c***r pears and dual NC apples and that’s just about all that’s left to pot up, oh except for the peach seedlings but that’s a tomorrow job 🌱🌱🌱 Have a great week.

Edible Garden Ltd is open this morning from 9-12 and then we are closed as we are off the the Hunterville Hunterway Festival or “Shamozzle” as it’s also known.

Looking forward to seeing how Charlie and Barry get on in the race and to hearing all those beautiful Hunterways “bark up” they are the iconic backbone of NZ farming.

Wow what a filthy windy day here in the Manawatu, one to hide from if you could. I have run out of potting mix so no hiding in the potting shed for me at Edible Garden Ltd today.

I had to turn to other jobs, I cleaned the shop ahead of all the lovely new product from Grosafe NZ arriving. Was so clean I had to leave my gumboots outside !!

We have restocked with 12kg Oceanfert, one of our favourite products a lovely slow release seaweed based soil conditioner. Awesome to use at planting time, as a side dressing for an extra boost and great in pots too. We also have liquid Ocean N Boost and Bio Power Seaweed flakes for liquid feeding. Especially good to boost plants who have suffered frost in the winter (citrus) and also peaches and nectarines suffering from leaf curl.

While hiding from the wind I cleaned up the signs for our annual Ashhurst Christmas parade but decided it was a tad windy to try and put them up.

Also hiding was Mr Frog 🐸 whose home is not under the bench but under a pot next to his own private swimming pool in a cup !

Open Saturday 9-12 - limited hours sorry as I head off to the Shamozzle in Hunterville.

Wow how does it get to be Wednesday already! ….long weekends. It was super busy at Edible Garden Ltd thank you all for calling in over the long weekend and hope your gardens enjoyed your efforts 🌱💚🌱

I fear I am turning into a crazy frog lady! 🐸🐸 These little green bell frogs are making themselves at home in the nursery, much to my delight. I had just used the water from this cup to water a plant and went to refill it (I leave extra water out for the critters). This little frog appeared to sun themselves, so I carefully refilled the cup with water 💦 and just watched, fascinated as life in the nursery carried on as usual. Seemingly not caring as customers and I gawked, pointed and delighted in the frogs presence, what a welcome visitor. I did wonder if it was the same frogs I had seen a week or two ago in another spot in the nursery, so went to check and nope they are still in residence, so this is another visitor.

I had thought of turning an old bath into a home for raspberries but quickly realised it would hold to much water (even with a good slope and extra drainage mesh over the hole) So maybe it’s time to change tact and turn it into an extra water source for the frogs 🐸 Has anyone done this? I have a picture in my mind but would love to see your pond, frog, water feature projects. Photos in comments would be awesome 💚🐸💚🐸

A busy day yesterday at Edible Garden Ltd yesterday, lovely to see you all. Today and Monday we are open 10-2 to celebrate the long weekend 🌱🥑🌱

We still have a handful of the Hazelnuts left at the crazy spring price of @$10.00 (normally $35) these are bare rooted plants so not potted and need planting ASAP. Only Ennis left all the Barcelona are sold 🌰🌰🌰🌰

Talking nut trees we have Chestnut’s, macadamia and potted Hazelnut’s available plus some beautiful dwarf Almond ‘Garden Prince’ and more Almonds coming on they just need a bit of time to settle into potted life.

Also a beautiful range of mature field grown grapes, these will In most cases fruit this year 🍇 Black Dalmatian, Bishop Pompalier, Buffullo, Canadice (seedless) EA Robinson, Kyoho, New York Muscat, Niagra, Schuyler, White Dalmatian and Urbana 🍇 all @$35.00

Long weekend here we come …….. Edible Garden Ltd is open Saturday 9-4, Sunday 10-2 and Monday 10-2 so you can enjoy this beautiful spring weather and get your garden on.

Avocados, citrus, Tamarillo , passionfruit, feijoas, berryfruit looking amazing at the moment and now that the soil is warming up and frosts have past (hopefully) we can safely plant and the big key to success this season will be mulching to protect the soil from drying out and Foliar feeding to keep our plants strong and resilient.

🌰🌰 Weekend SPECIAL I do have a few hazelnuts left in the sawdust bed which I am not going to pot up so these are on special this weekend @$10.00 each (normally $35) These are bare rooted so will need planting ASAP. 5 x Barcelona and 15 x Ennis available first in served🌰🌰

It’s been a busy week at Edible Garden Ltd with potting up in full swing, yesterday it was the figs and grapes 🍇 which are nearly finished, a few peaches, quinces and a couple of mulberry. The days have been hot 🌞 so lots of the trees are hanging out in the shade house adjusting to a different environment.

Lots of beautiful spring growth in the nursery with all the berry fruit looking super lush and lots covered in flowers. While the Elderberry are too little to have many flowers, my “wild” ones are covered in flowers and I can’t wait to make a new batch if Elderflower cordial this weekend.

The Citrus are looking and smelling divine and it’s a great time to plant. The soil is warming up nicely and hopefully frosts have finished in most parts of the country. Tamarillo, Passionfruit and avocado are all good to plant now too. This patch of warm weather will see them make abundant growth.

Hours this weekend are Friday and Saturday as usual 9-4 pm and Sunday and Monday 10-2pm ✅💚

Carrying on with the Espalier theme this week at Edible Garden Ltd.

We have not had espalier pear for a few years so I decided to wrangle a handful Into shape once potted 🍐🍐 I have made 2 x Pear Williams Bon Chretien and 2 x Pear Starks Crimson. They might need a few weeks to settle but looking good so far, fun to have a play, it’s all fun and games until you cut the wrong branch !!! 😝😩

I had a huge tidy up in the sawdust bed to consolidate everything, it helps me see what work is in front of me as spring has well and truely sprung!! It’s been a lovely week to pot up as the overcast days and a bit of gentle rain are just what the plants need.

Now that the winter dispatch season is over at Edible Garden Ltd it’s time to move on to potting up of fruit trees and the new seasons cutting and seedlings, busy busy.

First to get potted are the beautiful Espalier apple trees, Braeburn, Coxs Orange, Granny Smith and Royal Gala 🍎🍏🍎all @ $100.00. Due to size and shape these need to be collected from the nursery. We do have a plant carrier we can use for lower North island deliveries so let me know if you want to explore this option.

Open this week Wednesday to Saturday 9-4. Citrus, berryfruit, feijoas, avocado, passionfruit all looking superb lots of flowers appearing. 🌸🌸

A quick round up of the week here Edible Garden Ltd beautiful sunshine days, 2 frosts, 2 frogs 🐸 2 lambs, 4 new gonks and for a few moments 2 reindeer (I kid you not!) plenty of pear trees but no partridges. To early for Christmas? Maybe but those reindeer were soooo cute.

Lots of beautiful blossom on the citrus, really do need smell cam as the scent from the mandarin ‘Clementine’ is just delicious.
