When it comes to kitchen islands, bigger isn’t always better.
One of the most important considerations when planning an island is the space around it.
It’s not just about fitting everything into the room - it’s about how you move through the kitchen, how appliances and cabinetry open, and how comfortably more than one person can use the space at the same time.
As a general guideline, I recommend allowing a minimum 1200 mm work aisle between the island and surrounding cabinetry, with additional space considered depending on the layout and how the kitchen will be used.
Good space planning can make all the difference to how a kitchen works every day.
