The front door was in the wrong place. So we’re moving it. A new entrance at the front of the house, a generous laundry at the back, and a guest shower that turns the downstairs bedroom into a proper guest suite. Plenty more to come on this one.

Upstairs, the balustrade is on. Downstairs, the deck is coming together.

Slim black balusters along the upper deck, fresh weatherboards and spouting on the walls, and the lower deck framed and part-boarded below. Inside and out, every level of this home is getting the same attention.

Progress inside and out at our Cockle Bay renovation.

Out the back, the deck framing is taking shape around the pool, and the new cladding is looking sharp in the spring sun. Inside, the linings are going up and the kitchen cabinetry is in, ready for benchtops.

Plenty more still to come.

The linings are off and the original framing is exposed, with new framing going in alongside it. It's the stage where you really see how a house was built, and where the new layout starts to take shape.

The old light fitting is still hanging on for now. Plenty more progress to come.

This used to be the kitchen.

Like a lot of older homes, the rooms were boxed in. Whoever was cooking was stuck around the corner from everyone else. So the kitchen has moved downstairs, where a house this size has room for a big one.

And this space becomes the master suite: walk-in wardrobe, ensuite at the far end, and a view out over the water.

Somewhere to entertain. Somewhere to hide. This one's going to be awesome when it's done.

Framing up. Insulation in. Linings going on. Once the walls are closed, everything behind them stays there for the life of the home.

So this is where we slow down and get it right. Straight, square, and checked before anything gets covered up.
