Design Spotlight: Three Chimneys

"The house is unapologetically modern, black steel, crisp white walls and strong geometric forms sitting above the vines in Martinborough. It's bold from the outside, but we never wanted the interior to feel clinical.

From the beginning, we knew timber would be the material that gave the house its warmth. We eventually settled on VidaSpace's Dawn European Oak flooring, and looking back, it's one of the decisions we've never questioned.

We chose Shinnoki Pure Walnut for the cabinetry throughout both the kitchen and adjoining scullery because we wanted these spaces to feel more like finely crafted furniture than traditional kitchen joinery.

If I was starting the project again tomorrow, timber would still be one of the first decisions I'd make. Not because it's a luxury, but because it's the material that people experience every single day. You walk on it, touch it, lean against it and live with it.

At The Three Chimneys, the architecture may catch your eye first, but it's the timber that makes the house feel like home."

Before mechanised milling standardised timber into uniform widths and lengths, flooring was cut and laid according to what each log would yield: a board as wide as the trunk allowed, as long as the timber ran clean.

That irregularity, largely engineered out of modern flooring, is the starting point for the Hand Grade Collection.

Drawn from the banquet hall floors of the Middle Ages, its boards reach up to four metres long and nearly half a metre wide, laid in random widths and lengths so no two are quite the same.

Design Spotlight: Terrington Court by

“This project is the result of architecture, interiors, and client vision working in harmony. Designed for a couple with a love of entertaining, the home unfolds as a carefully choreographed sequence of spaces - each considered, connected, and deeply personal.

Every decision – from appliance selection to joinery detailing – has been made with intention, ensuring the kitchen not only performs exceptionally but feels effortless to inhabit. The result is a home that resonates on an emotional level: calm, welcoming, and quietly luxurious.

It is a space people walk into and instantly feel at ease in – a home designed not just to be lived in, but to be shared.”

Design Spotlight: Parrs Road by continued

"A collaboration between myself and client Joe, with the intent of creating a home that was both raw and refined. Joe had a two-word brief: solid and grunty; and my aim was to bring that along with a sense of softness. The Neston Hand Grade flooring was the first selection made, and with such a beautiful and unique foundation the home's story really grew organically. A rich and layered pallet of natural, honest, and patinaed materials was the essence of this project."
