If the coffee table looks close but your drink always ends up on the floor, this is why — a dimension our team gets asked about constantly:
The gap between the sofa and the coffee table should be 400–450mm. That's close enough to reach your coffee without standing up, but far enough that you're not kneeing the table every time you sit down.
Coffee table height — match the sofa seat height, or sit 25mm below it. Much higher and it blocks the view from sofa to sofa; much lower and drinks feel awkward to reach.
If you've got the space, a large ottoman works even better — it's the same height as the sofa seat, soft to rest your feet on, and a tray turns it into a coffee table when needed.
Got ideas but not sure where to begin? Come chat with our team at the studio, or take a walk through the showroom — no commitment, just a conversation about what you're thinking.
