Staff Spotlight Flynn 🌱

If you’ve been involved in any of our community planting days, you’ll probably know Flynn.

He’s passionate about getting good people together, rolling up their sleeves and doing something practical for the environment. He leads projects, loves working with kids and knows how to make a day of planting a good time for everyone involved.

That enthusiasm goes a long way. Getting the next generation excited about nature is a pretty special part of the job, and Flynn brings plenty of energy to it. 🌿

Come the weekend, our resident adventure man is usually off climbing or finding his next adventure. Or settling in for a board game so complex the rest of us would need a training session before we could start.

Always up for an adventure. Always keen to get people involved. An absolute weapon and a great mate to have in the crew. 🙌

That’s a wrap on the 2026 planting season! 🌱

None of it happens without our crew. Nearly 50 people have been part of our planting team this season. They’re amazing humans, and plenty of them are faces our regular customers will know well 💚

In the weekend we celebrated with the Nursery Olympics 🏅, a bit of fun with the skills we build every day. Auger start-ups, auger hill runs, tray carting and the gumboot dash. Turns out our team is just as competitive as they are hardworking.

We wrapped it up with good food, plenty of laughs and a sunset that just kept going 🌅

A massive shout out to every one of you. Thank you for the early starts, the wet days, the steep hills and every tree you’ve put in the ground. You’re absolute legends, and we couldn’t ask for a better crew 🙌

How do you know when it’s time to release? 🌱

Keep an eye on the regrowth around each tree. As a guide, aim to release when the grass is around halfway up the plant, before it overtops and smothers it.

Growth can move quickly in spring, so regular checks make all the difference. A walk around your planting now can help you catch the spots that need attention.

Staff Spotlight Ants! 🌱

If you’ve spent time around Restore Native, there’s a good chance you’ve been greeted by Ants’ smiling face.
Whether he’s planning projects or leading the team in the nursery, Ants brings the organisation that keeps everything ticking. He’s got a sharp eye for detail, likes things in their place and sets a high standard for the crew.

While Adam might reckon a love of plants will get you a long way, Ants makes sure there’s a decent plan to go with it. A pretty handy balance to have in the team.

Outside of work, you’ll probably find him running. We’re still not entirely sure what he’s running from, but as part of the Restore Native Run Club, he’s certainly putting in the kilometres. 🏃

Big smile. High standards. Bloody lucky to have him on board. 🙌

Sunday sessions 💪🌱

Big shoutout to the team for being absolute legends. There’s a lot of hard work that goes on behind the scenes to get these plants where they need to be, and it doesn’t go unnoticed.

Good people, good work, and plenty of natives getting out the door 👏🌿

Great to be involved in this project alongside Rabobank and the local community 🌱

Restore Native NZ donated $5,000 worth of native plants to help bring this project to life. It’s awesome to see everyone working together to make a positive difference. ⭐️

Growing native plants and supporting the next generation 🌱

Stoked to have NZMA agriculture students join James and the crew for a day of planting in Ngāhinapōuri! A great chance to get stuck in, build practical skills and help get native plants in the ground.

Community is a big part of what we do, and we love sharing what we know with the next generation.

Big thanks to Mel and the students for their hard work! Great to have you alongside us! 💚

Getting trees in the ground is a great start. Giving them the care they need afterwards helps all that hard work pay off. 🌱

As spring growth picks up, keep an eye on the grass and w**ds around your young natives. A well-timed release gives them room to grow and helps protect the effort you've already put into your planting.
