Seaside Bees

This is a very big swarm and it not a easy one… I had to cut the tree down to get the bees out, of course my nuc box was too small so I had to use a big cardboard box for transport. After getting them into their new home they swarmed on me!!! The long massive swarm is them again! Easy to put them back in the box with even more space… but no, still didn’t like it and moved on… I am going back this morning and hopefully 3rd time’s a charm!! To be continued…

I might try something like that for our coming dry summer!

Today I melted down some of our own beeswax and used it to coat the plastic frames before they go into the hives.
Adding a thin layer gives the bees a familiar starting point and encourages them to draw their comb in the right place.

Flowers are blooming and the bees are buzzing! It's not officially spring yet, but it is time to consider your own backyard hive. I have a few slots available for a consultation, assessment of your property and then we can discuss your own beehive and honey to come. PM me as the ideal time of year is upon us.
