Tony was back in Inglewood recently for another site visit to what will be the town's first ever Passive House. This time, the conversation turned to the results.
Before a single wall went up, the home was put through energy modelling. That's a detailed simulation of how a building gains, holds and loses heat across a full year. It lets us test design decisions on paper long before a Taranaki winter tests them for real. For this home, the results are very impressive. Despite its "under the mountain" location, it's on track to need very little heating or cooling at all.
For the people who'll live here, that means a home that stays at a steady, comfortable temperature all year round. The draughts and cold rooms many of us have simply learned to live with won't be part of it. That's the quiet promise of the Passivhaus Standard, and it's why we treat high performance as the foundation of good design rather than an optional extra.
Take a look at the walkthrough Tony filmed on site.
We'll keep sharing updates as this project comes together, along with a few others we're excited about. If you've got a block of your own in mind, give Tony a call or drop him an email. He'd love to grab a coffee, bring the sketch pad, and see what's possible.
