🌱 Rongotea Community Garden – Looking for a few local helpers 🌱

Due to personal circumstances, we have recently moved away from Rongotea, which means we’re no longer able to be hands-on with the community garden.

We would love to find a small group of local people who would be willing to help keep the garden going. ❀️

The garden is already fully established, with raised beds, fruit trees and a watering system in place. We also have an arrangement with the local school for produce to be picked up and distributed to the children/community.

We will continue to supply plants and help with anything we can from a distance. What we really need is a few local people who can:
🌱 Keep an occasional eye on the garden
πŸ’§ Make sure everything is growing and watered
πŸ₯• Harvest produce when it’s ready
🏫 Have it ready for the school to collect/distribute

It doesn’t need to be a huge commitment or one person doing everything β€” we’d ideally love a little team who can share the responsibility.

We’ve put a lot of love, time and hard work into getting the garden established, and it would be such a shame for it not to continue providing fresh produce to the Rongotea community. ❀️

If you’re local and think you might be able to help, or know someone who would be perfect for this, please send me a message or comment below.

We’d be incredibly grateful for any help in keeping the Rongotea Community Garden growing. 🌻πŸ₯•πŸ“

What the hell is wrong with people? 😑

So many hours have gone into fundraising, building and assembling the garden beds, planting, watering and caring for this garden. So much time, effort and love has been put into creating something for our community.

And now someone has deliberately damaged part of the watering system, turned the water on and flooded half the garden and the neighbour’s driveway. They’ve also destroyed three garden beds that had vegetables we had only just planted.

I am honestly beyond devastated and so incredibly sad. πŸ’”

This garden was created for the community β€” to provide fresh produce, bring people together and give something back to Rongotea. It’s heartbreaking to see someone treat all that hard work and generosity with such disrespect.

If you know anything about what has happened, please speak up. We just want to be able to continue doing something positive for our community without people deliberately destroying it.

Hi everyone,

Unfortunately, the last harvest of fresh vegetables wasn't collected from the community sharing table at the Rongotea Community Centre.

To make sure nothing goes to waste, we're teaming up with Rongotea Primary School, who will help distribute the produce to families who would like some.

If you don't have children at the school but would still like some fresh vegetables, please email me at [email protected], and we'll do our best to make sure you don't miss out.

Together, let's make sure our fresh produce is enjoyed rather than wasted! πŸ₯•πŸ₯¬πŸ…

Garden update

A fantastic working bee was held at the community garden last month, with a great turnout and plenty of hard work getting done.

A special thank you to Levi, his sister, and his two nieces for really getting stuck in β€” your efforts were hugely appreciated. Big thanks as well to Illona Faasen and our neighbour Hunter Smith, who spotted us working and came over to lend a hand β€” always great to see our younger community members getting involved!

Together, we managed to fill all garden beds and plant all the fruit trees, which is an awesome milestone for the project. A big thank you to Simon at All-Tree Services for donating mulch for our new fruit trees.

The chainsaw raffle has also been drawn, with DAVID TUCKER taking out the prize β€” congratulations! A huge effort from everyone who sold and purchased tickets; your support makes a real difference.
