Since joiningTrees That Count | Te Rahi o Tāne as a supporter, National Group has funded 2,301 native trees across 74 restoration projects throughout Aotearoa New Zealand — supporting the regeneration of native forests and helping create healthier habitats for our native species.
One of these projects is the Huiroa Reserve extension in Taranaki. The 1.7-hectare reserve protects a remnant of the tawa, pukatea and podocarp forest that once covered much larger areas of central Taranaki. Today, this forest type occupies only 26% of its former extent, making remaining pockets such as Huiroa particularly important. The restoration project aims to strengthen and protect the small existing forest by extending it to the east with approximately one hectare of native planting, using species indigenous to the area.
National Group is proud to continue supporting Trees That Count and the many restoration projects working to regenerate Aotearoa's native forests and enhance biodiversity for the future. 🌱
