Before November rolls in, we have a couple of well-earned shout-outs to make around the yard 🎉

Malachi clocks up five solid years with Techlam, while Jodi celebrates her two-year mark! We caught up with Malachi earlier in the month to hand over his five-year certificate, recognising half a decade of steady graft and dependable work on the floor 🤝 Meanwhile, Jodi continues to get an immense amount done quietly in the background, keeping details sorted 👌

It takes both sides of the coin to keep our operation running true day after day! Huge thanks to you both for your hard work and commitment.

Planning to hit the trails this summer? 😁🥾 If the Milford Track is on your list, you might find yourself resting under Techlam NZ glulam frames for this week’s .

Back in 2021, the Department of Conservation (DOC) set out to replace the old Mintaro Hut due to rockfall risk, creating a safer, warmer refuge for trampers tackling the track. Designed by Pynenburg & Collins Architects, the focal point of the communal space is a set of large portal frames that open the room right up to the Fiordland magical ✨ scenery.

Building in such a remote backcountry spot was a bit tight in terms of logistics. Our Techlam team manufactured and prefabricated the glulam portal frames at our Levin plant before dispatching them directly to the staging area. From there, each member was airlifted into the valley by chopper, arriving on site ready for fast assembly by the construction crew 💪

From the factory floor straight out to the tarmac in Palmerston North 🛫

With our team flying in and out of Palmy so often, seeing Techlam NZ glulam standing at the new airport terminal is awesome! The first pic shows the timber getting prepped in our Levin plant before loading. The rest are straight from site, with the big diagonal timber frames locked in and the roof taking shape!

It took a lot of hard yards and practical problem-solving with the design team early on to work through the tricky bits, but seeing the result standing up makes it 100% worth it. Gonna look brilliant once the terminal opens up to travellers 🎉

A massive milestone on site in Nukuʻalofa! 🇹🇴✨ Last week, the very first timber arch for the new Tonga Parliament project was raised up!

The Prime Minister of Tonga, Hon. Lord Fakafānua, and a number of officials were on site to view the progress.

Seeing these large curved Techlam NZ glulam members travel from our Levin manufacturing yard out to the Pacific and fly into place so cleanly is brilliant. The sweeping arches will form the core of the debating chamber, blending traditional Pacific form with mass timber engineering.

Makes you feel exceptionally proud to play a part in a landmark build that will stand for generations! Thank you to the team at Westland Construction for sharing the site updates👏

Soaking your feet at Te Waimirimiri o Te Kuirau is a classic Rotorua ritual, making this 2018 project a great one to look back on for !

The Techlam NZ team produced the structural glulam members across the site, including the main gateway, the BBQ shelter and the canopies covering the pools. The geometric rooflines with the custom trapezium and triangular sections pair up with the concrete pylons and round timber poles to give the park a traditional yet contemporary look.

Five years strong, Malachi! 🏅

Huge congrats to Malachi on reaching his five-year milestone with Techlam NZ! Brett caught up with him at the end of last week to hand over his official certificate, marking half a decade of great graft, dedication and reliability on the floor.

Our people make Techlam NZ what it is, and we genuinely appreciate everything you bring to the team every day. Well done, Malachi 🤝 Here is to the years ahead! 🍻

Hey Dunedin locals, have you ever crossed this one on foot or bike? For this week's , we are heading back to 2011 to revisit the Water of Leith pedestrian and cycle bridge.

Crossings over waterways (especially tidal ones) almost always default to steel or concrete. For this bridge, the central steel mast has been combined to curved glulam beams, bringing warmth the overall structure.

The Techlam NZ team manufactured the timber deck structure and balustrades at our Levin plant, pre-engineering the components off-site so they assembled cleanly over the water. Over fifteen years down the track, the timber still holds up nicely!

With spring in the air and everyone plotting their summer tramping trips, Te Wharehou o Waikaremoana is a great one to look back on for this .

Built back in 2017 for Ngāi Tūhoe alongside Department of Conservation (DOC) the building acts as the front door to the Lake Waikaremoana Great Walk. It offers trampers a spot to grab a coffee, pick up hut tickets or shelter under the broad eaves, while providing an administrative and wānanga base for the local tribal authority. Tennent Brown Architects shaped the roofline to follow the contour of the lake basin, pairing it with burnt timber cladding that speaks to "ahi kā" (the home fires of occupation).

Getting the structure right meant clearing some tough hurdles. The build followed the strict Living Building Challenge (LBC), requiring non-toxic, responsibly sourced materials from top to bottom.

The team manufactured and prefabricated the structural glulam portal frames at our Levin plant to meet those exact environmental standards, delivering a durable frame ready for quick assembly on site.

If your boots are hitting the trail around Waikaremoana this coming season, you will get to see this piece of timber architecture up close 🥾🌄

Massive crowd through the doors at Addington Raceway today for the ITM NZ LBP Training Day in Christchurch! Another top-tier event run by the ITM crew 👌

The Techlam NZ team is on site talking all things structural glulam. We’ve had continuous interest in our pre-engineered glulam truss systems, especially around how off-site prefabrication simplifies construction and saves lots of hours on admin jobs since they can be supplied with a design supported by a PS1.

If you are earning your LBP points here today, head over to the stand to check out the truss details close up, grab some technical literature or run through your upcoming Canterbury projects with the boys. We are here until 4:00pm!

Always great seeing our product out in the world! Here is a sharp pair of new townhouses in Cambridge, featuring exposed Techlam NZ glulam beams and posts carrying the front decks. The natural timber creates a clean, warm contrast against the dark vertical cladding.

Solid work by the build team, with the timber supplied through the crew at Timber Supplies.

Nothing beats the look and feel of exposed structural glulam on a modern residential build 👌
