🌼 𝐓𝐇𝐄 '𝐅𝐈𝐑𝐒𝐓' 𝐒𝐈𝐆𝐍𝐒 𝐎𝐅 𝐖𝐈𝐍𝐓𝐄𝐑!
So far, winter has looked very mild in CHCH/Canterbury. However, yesterday's snowfall was a beautiful reminder that winter has truly settled in across Canterbury. While the gardens may be taking a well-earned rest, there's something special about seeing the landscape transformed by a dusting of snow.

Beneath the cold, our rhododendrons are quietly preparing for the spectacular display of colour that spring will bring. 🌸

For now, enjoy the crisp mornings, the snowy views, and the promise that brighter days aren't too far away. 💚

🌼 𝐎𝐔𝐓 & 𝐀𝐁𝐎𝐔𝐓 | 𝐇𝐎𝐎𝐍 𝐇𝐀𝐘
Another gem we spied whilst out and about — and what a stunning example of a mature rhododendron tree! 🌿

With its beautiful structure and intense pink blooms, it’s a wonderful reminder of the incredible impact these magnificent plants can bring to a garden. Mature rhododendrons truly are a sight to behold when they burst into flower, creating a spectacular display of colour.

The rhododendron bloom window is nearly upon us, and over the coming weeks we’ll start seeing more of our early bloomers making an appearance. Keep an eye out for favourites like Kaponga and Cornubia — two stunning reds that are always a highlight as the season begins.

🌿DONT WAIT FOR SPRING....
It might not look like much is happening above ground, but if you can, winter is one of the best times to plant rhododendrons and azaleas - and give it time to bed in and spread its roots.

While the plant isn't putting energy into flowers or lots of new growth, it's quietly establishing a strong root system. That means by the time spring arrives, it's ready to burst into life.

Every RhodoDirect rhododendron is already a well-established four-year-old plant with a healthy root system, giving it the best possible start. Planting now allows those roots to continue settling into your garden before the growing season begins.

To help them thrive:
💧 Water during extended dry periods.
🍂 Keep a layer of mulch around the base to protect the shallow roots and retain moisture.
🌱 Make sure they're planted at the correct depth with good drainage.
