With the declaration of Architect Gabriel Formoso as the seventh National Artist for Architecture and Allied Arts, we honor not only an architect of exceptional vision, but a legacy that has profoundly shaped the way we understand architecture.
“This is the first time I have put into words what architecture means to me. I have been content to let my works speak for themselves. For they stand, easily legible, against the horizon, forming a kind of sierra skyscrape, a personal signature. What is it that they say? What do they reveal about the architect whose signature they are.”*
His enduring philosophy—rooted in beauty, responsibility, and simplicity—continues to live through the institution he founded, GF & Partners, now GFP Architects, and through its sister company, GFP Interiors.
Formoso’s ideals remain woven into the very fabric of our practice— in every project we undertake, in every concept we thoughtfully develop, and in every pursuit of excellence we strive to achieve. His belief that meaningful design extends beyond what is seen continues to guide us toward work that is purposeful, enduring, and deeply considered.
Today, his legacy stands not simply as a chapter in our history, but as a continuing responsibility—to uphold the standards he established, to carry forward his ideals, and to create with the same sense of purpose that defined his life’s work.
