Unlike most butterflies, the female carefully checks plants for predatory ants before laying her eggs, places them beneath leaves, and has even been observed guarding them. Meanwhile, males are highly territorial, defending a chosen perch for up to 54 days and aggressively chasing away rivalsโ€”even investigating much larger animals, including humans.

Texas Sage (Leucophyllum frutescens) is a resilient, drought-tolerant evergreen shrub native to the American Southwest and Mexico. It features soft, silver-green foliage and produces vibrant, tubular pink-purple flowers that bloom heavily after rain.

Care Tips

Sunlight: Full sun is mandatory for dense growth and heavy blooming.

Watering: Water deeply but infrequently; always allow the soil to dry out completely.

Soil: Use lean, rocky, and excellently draining soil with an alkaline pH.

Fertilizing: Do not fertilize; rich soil or added nutrients weaken the plant.

Pruning: Trim lightly to preserve its natural, rounded shape.
