Your finish should make your favourites look good, not fight them.

1. Contrast. Dark things pop on warm surfaces.
2. Undertone. Warm wood and warm accents get along. Cool grey makes everything look borrowed.

Display is not clutter with better lighting.

1. Hide the everyday. Closed doors for the boring stuff.
2. Show the loved. One lit spot for the things that matter.
3. Light it. Anything lit looks intentional. Anything unlit looks like storage.

A top-mounted basin has to earn its place on the counter.

This blue-and-white bowl gives the bathroom a focal point against the coral tiles. It also needs to work comfortably every day.

That means planning the counter height with the raised bowl in mind, choosing a tap that reaches properly into it, and leaving enough space to clean around the base. Get those details right and the basin can be both practical and the piece that gives the room its character.

The bedside light is only half the story here.

The lit niche puts a soft glow beside the bed, where you reach for a book or set down your phone. Across the room, fluted glass lets light filter into the bedroom while blurring the view beyond it.

One gives you light where you need it after dark. The other lets the room borrow light during the day.

When planning a bedroom, think about both: where light enters, and where you need it once the main lights are off.

Most islands get pendants in a straight, matching row.

This one got three, hung at different heights.

A pendant over a counter has one job beyond light: give the eye somewhere to land.

Picking your own: choose a shade that still looks good switched off, and hang in odd numbers at staggered heights, not level.

Height: start 70-75cm above the counter, then adjust for your ceiling.

A guidelight is the soft LED strip tucked under your bathroom shelves and cabinets. It stays low and dim, timed to trace your path from bed to toilet before your eyes fully adjust.

Flip the main switch at 2am and your body reads it as 8am. Full brightness resets your sleep cycle for a task that takes under a minute.

What we build into every guidelight setup:

1. Low placement, tucked under cabinets and shelves, never overhead. That way it lights your feet, not your face.

2. Warm colour temperature, soft white or amber. Cool light tells your brain to wake up, warm light lets it stay asleep.

3. One route only, bed to sink to toilet. No need to light the whole room for a two minute trip.

Half the room does not need a bulb turned on for you to find your way. 🌙

The cheapest way to make a colour choice look intentional is to repeat it.

Pick one colour you love for your space.. then find it a second home somewhere you wouldn't expect: a door frame, a plinth, a stair riser. 1 appearance reads as an accident, but 2 reads as a plan.

You don't need a cabinet door on every inch of your kitchen.

Leave one section open and it stops being storage for awhile.

Only put things in that section you'd actually want on show, not the stuff you're normally hiding behind a door.

It also breaks up a long run of cabinetry without adding a single extra material.
